About the journal
The journal deals with all aspects of isotope application in environmental and health studies, such as:
- investigations using variations in natural isotope abundance (isotope ecology, isotope hydrology, isotope geology)
- stable isotope tracer techniques to follow the fate of certain substances in soil, water, plants, animals and in the human body
- isotope effects, tracer theory, and mathematical modelling of environmental cycles
- isotope measurement methods and equipment with respect to environmental and health research
- diagnostic (stable) isotope application in medicine
Instructions to Authors
Isotopes in Environmental and Health Studies deals with all aspects of isotope application in environmental and health studies, such as investigations using variations in natural isotope abundance (isotope ecology, isotope hydrology, isotope geology); stable isotope tracer techniques to trace the fate of certain substances in soil, water, plants, animals, and in the human body; isotope effects, tracer theory, and mathematical modelling of environmental cycles; isotope measurement methods and equipment with respect to environmental and health research; diagnostic stable isotope application in medicine; ionogenic radiation exposure and its effects on all living matter as well as radiation protection. The journal publishes original papers, short communications, reviews of important subject areas, book reviews, conference proceedings, conference reports, and news of interest. The language of publication is English.
Manuscripts. All submissions will be subject to the normal process of peer review. Please submit three copies of your manuscript, typed on one side of the paper and double spaced, as well as an electronic version on disk (see below) to: Professor Dr. Peter Krumbiegel, c/o UFZ-Umweltforschungszentrum Leipzig-Halle GmbH, Permoserstr. 15, 04318 Leipzig, Germany. Contributors should note that material submitted to the journal must be original, must not have already appeared in another publication and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by the journal.
The title of the paper and the author(s) name(s) as well as full address of the corresponding author (street address, telefone, fax and email address) should appear on page one. Abstract and keywords should follow on page 2.
Please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.
Disk submissions. Authors should send the final, revised version of their article in both hard copy (paper) and electronic (disk) forms. It is essential that the hard copy (paper) version exactly matches the material on disk. Please print out the hard copy from the disk you are sending. Submit three printed copies of the final version with the disk to the journal's editorial office. Save all files on a standard 3.5-inch high-density disk. We prefer to receive disks in Microsoft Word (PC format), but can translate from most other common word-processing programs as well as Macs. Please specify which program you have used. Do not save your files as "text only" or "read only".
Tables and figures. Tables must be typed on separate sheets and not included at part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered and typed on a separate sheet. Tables should be numbered by Roman numerals and figures by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the paper. Please supply clear copies of artwork (preferably the originals) for figures in a finished format suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher. The author(s) must arrange permission for the reproduction of illustrations and tables within articles. Figures may be sent electronically, preferably in either TIFF (tagged image format) or EPS (encapsulated Postscript) formats. However, we can also accept PICT or JPEG formats.
Colour pages. There are a limited number of colour pages within the annual page allowance. However, authors should restrict their use of colour to situations where it is necessary on scientific, and not merely cosmetic, grounds. In addition, authors may pay to publish colour illustrations, but please consult the publisher regarding cost before submission.
Equations and formulae. Mathematical notation should be clearly marked. Mathematical equations should preferably be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. Unusual or ambiguous symbols are recommended to be marked at first occurrence. Use the "exp" form of complex exponential function, fractional exponents instead of root signs, the solidus (/) to simplify fraction, e.g. exp. x1/2. Underline all mathematical symbols to be set in italic and put a wavy line under bold symbols. Unmarked letters/symbols will be set in roman type.
References and Notes. References and notes are indicated in the text by consecutive arabic numbers in square brackets. The full list should be collected and typed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Listed references should be complete in all details. Please follow the example shown. Journal article: [1] Smith, A. B. and Jones U. D. (1990). Title of paper. J. Appl. Phys. 34, 251-259. Books: [1] Smith, A. B. and Jones, U. D. Title. Publisher: New York 1972; Chapter 5, p. 251.
Offprints. Fifty offprints and a copy of the journal are supplied free for each article. Additional offprints and copies of the journal may be purchased and should be ordered when the proofs are returned. Offprints are sent by accelerated surface mail soon after publication.
Copyright. It is a condition that authors vest copyright in their articles, including abstracts, in Taylor & Francis Ltd. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and the journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may use their article elsewhere after publication provided that prior permission is obtained from Taylor & Francis Ltd. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
