AIMS
Irrigation and Drainage is the official journal of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).
The objectives of the ICID are to advance the science and art of irrigation, drainage and flood control. Published four times a year, the Journal is a prestigious peer-reviewed publication and enables ICID to accomplish its objectives of publishing original papers on scientific, engineering, environmental and socio-economic issues associated with irrigation and drainage in a clear, concise and uniform style that is easily understood by an international audience. ICID has for half a century, been the main forum for the global dissemination of experience and new ideas in the quest for the sustainable use and protection of water and land to meet the World's increasing demand for food and fibre.
SCOPE
Human intervention in the control of water for sustainable agricultural development involves the application of technology and management approaches to: (i) provide the appropriate quantities of water when it is needed by the crops, (ii) prevent salinisation and water-logging of the root zone, (iii) protect land from floods, and (iv) maximise the beneficial use of water by appropriate allocation, conservation and reuse. All this has to be achieved within a framework of economic, social and environmental constraints. The Journal, therefore, covers a wide range of subjects, advancement in which, through high quality papers in the Journal, will make a significant contribution to the enormous task of satisfying the needs of the world’s ever-increasing population. |
Instructions to Authors
Instructions to Authors
Initial Manuscript Submission. Submit three copies of the manuscript (including copies of tables and illustrations) to the journal editor: Paul van Hofwegen, Conseil Mondial de l'Eau (World Water Council), Les Docks de la Joliette - Atrium 10.3, 10 place de la Joliette, 13002 Marseille Cedex 2, France. E-mail: p.vanhofwegen@worldwatercouncil.org
Authors must also supply:
- an electronic copy of the final version (see section below),
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form. Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Submitted material will not be returned to the author unless specifically requested.
Electronic submission. The electronic copy of the final, revised manuscript must be sent to the Editor together with the paper copy. Disks should be PC or Mac formatted; write on the disk the software package used, the name of the author and the name of the journal. We are able to use most word processing packages, but prefer Word or WordPerfect.
Illustrations must be submitted in electronic format where possible. Save each figure as a separate file, in TIFF or EPS format preferably, and include the source file. Write on the disk the software package used to create them; we favour dedicated illustration packages over tools such as Excel or Powerpoint.
Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English/French. All submissions must have a title, be printed on one side of the paper, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title, short title and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply an abstract of up to 200 words for all articles in English and French. An abstract is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- Include up to six keywords that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
- Submit papers not exceeding 10 printed pages, or less than 16 manuscript folios including tables, figures and references.
Reference style. References from international sources are expected. References should be quoted in the text as name and year within brackets and listed at the end of the paper alphabetically. Where reference is made to more than one work by the same author published in the same year, identify each citation in the text as follows: (Collins, 1998a), (Collins, 1998b). Where three or more authors are listed in the reference list, please cite in the text as (Collins et al., 1998)
All references must be complete and accurate. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
Ferguson RI. 1985. Runoff from glacierized mountains: a model for annual variation and its forecasting. Water Resources Research 21 (4): 702-708.
Hillel D. 1980. Applications of Soil Physics. New York: Academic Press.
Illustrations. Supply each illustration on a separate sheet, with the lead author's name and the figure number, with the top of the figure indicated, on the reverse. Supply original photographs; photocopies or previously printed material will not be used. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Supply artwork at the intended size for printing.
The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience site.
Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of Irrigation and Drainage. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or printed from this website.
Further Information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Two journal copies will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
