Instructions to Authors
Submission. Manuscripts should be sent to the Executive Editor at the International Statistical Institute Permanent Office, P.O. Box 950, 2270 AZ Voorburg, The Netherlands. 4 copies are required. Papers must not be submitted elsewhere at the same time.
Language. The language used must be either English or French.
Layout. Please follow the arrangements in a recent issue for sections, headings, equations, tables and references. Manuscripts should be in type not smaller than 12 characters per inch, double spaced (word processed manuscripts should have at least 5mm 'white space' between lines, including References) with wide margins, reproduced on one side of the paper only. The name and full postal address of each author should be given below the title of the paper. Footnotes should be avoided except for tables.
Summaries and keywords. Papers must be accompanied two summaries, in English and French respectively. Each summary should consist of one paragraph only, with mathematical expressions reduced to a minimum. Some key words in English should follow the English summary; these should be arranged in alphabetical order.
Arrangements of equations. Important displayed equations should be numbered at the right-hand margin. Short formulae should be left in the text to save space where possible, but must not be more than one line high.
Figures and Tables. The figures and tables are to be refereed to in the text by number, not by page or indication such as 'below' or 'above'. Before the paper is sent to the printer the authors must supply either laser-printed or professionally drawn fair copy of any figures. The drawings should be about twice the size they are to be printed (maximum type-page area 12.5 x 20.3 cm). Lettering can be hand-written but should be unambiguous.
References. The list at the end should correspond to those in the text; they should be arranged alphabetically, and for the same author chronologically. Use, a, b c, etc. to separate publications of the same author in the same year. Abbreviate names of journals to Mathematical Reviews. Examples of references:

References in text should be indicated in either of the two ways used in the following examples '.... as discussed by Hennequin & Tortrat (1965) ...' or '.... as discussed previously (Hennequin & Tortrat, 1965) ...'. If part of a reference is indicated please specify after reference, e.g. Feller (1966, X.4), or Fisher (1934, p. 293).
Acceptance. On acceptance of the manuscript for publications an electronic submission will be required, either on a diskette or by email. Preferably in LaTeX. Words for windows or ASCII is also accepted.
Proofs and Offprints. Authors will receive 2 sets of proofs for possible corrections, one of which should be returned to the Executive Editor along with the offprints order form within 7 days of receipt. 25 offprints are provided free of charge to one author.
