Aims and Scope. The International Journal of Toxicology, formerly titled Journal of the American College of Toxicology, is the College’s sole official journal. Currently published bimonthly, the journal publishes original, peer-reviewed papers on the toxicity of industrial chemicals, pharmaceutical agents, environmental contaminants and other entities, and explores their mechanisms of actions or relevance to human health.
The Journal’s scope includes risk assessment; carcinogenicity; safety evaluation; reproductive and genetic toxicology epidemiology; clinical toxicology including toxikinetics, metabolism of xenobiotics, bioactivation mechanisms, detoxication mechanisms, and mechanisms of toxicity of singular chemicals; and chemical combinations or chemical mixtures are published. Review and mini-review articles on timely issues/topics relating to the science of toxicology are also encouraged. Special issues are devoted to the Cosmetics Ingredient Review Expert Panel and the Acute Toxicity Data Report.
Publication of other special issues is possible. Organizations or organizers of meetings and symposia are welcome to direct their inquiries to the Editor-in-Chief regarding their interest in publishing the proceedings of national or international meetings or other reports.
Submission of Manuscripts. The original and three photocopies of each manuscript should be submitted, along with a $50 manuscript handling fee (payable to the American College of Toxicology), to the Editor-in-Chief:
Harihara M. Mehendale, PhD, DABT, FATS, Department of Toxicology, College of Pharmacy, The University of Louisiana at Monroe, 700 University Avenue (Sugar Hall #306), Monroe, LA 71209-0495, USA. Fax: 318-342-1686. E-mail: pymehendale@ulm.edu.
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors’ names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. This form can be photocopied from the Journal. A completed and duly signed form should accompany the manuscript at the time of submission. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. All titles should be as brief as possible, 6 to 12 words. Authors should also supply a short version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more that 250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract.
The latest issue of the journal should be consulted for all style-related matters to assure that manuscripts are style-compliant.
Page 1 of the manuscript should contain the article title, the names and affiliations of all authors, an abbreviated form of the title, and the name, complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the person to whom all correspondence should be sent. The text of the remaining manuscript should be double-spaced. Page 2 should contain an abstract.
Studies involving the use of animals should briefly describe the procedures employed for their humane care and use as promulgated by the ACT, NIH, or other regulatory guidelines. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal’s web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com. References. Should be alphabetized by author and compiled in a separate section at the end of the manuscript. Cite in text by author and year. Reference style should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed., e.g.:
