About the journal
International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice is an international, quarterly, peer-reviewed journal for clinical psychiatrists in both practice and hospital settings. Focusing on the practical aspects of managing and treating patients, the journal provides an authoritative, entertaining, and sometimes controversial resource for the busy psychiatrist, trainee and interested physician. With the growing interest in 慹vidence-based?medicine, the International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice gives particular emphasis to papers that straddle the divide between academic research and clinical practice

SCOPE AND POLICY International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice is a high-quality quarterly journal targeted primarily at clinical psychiatrists working in hospital environments as well as in private practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the interface between important new treatments stemming from advanced scientific research and their clinical applications. In addition, the journal aims to reflect all the issues at the forefront of current debate:
- Original research reports
- Case reports and short reports
- Reviews of treatment studies
- Analyses of pharmacoeconomic issues
- Commentaries
- Interviews and Debates
Original reports and reviews can be up to 7500 words in length. Please contact the Editors to discuss the suitability of topics. Reports should be approximately 1500 words with 2-3 tables or figures. Commentaries, or other material falling outside the usual categories, can be up to 2500 words. All papers will be peer-reviewed and will edited to ensure clarity and accuracy of English.
Articles are considered for publication on the understanding that neither the article nor its essential substance has been, or will be, published elsewhere before appearing in International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice. Abstracts and press reports published in connection with scientific meetings are not considered to be publications.

GENERAL FORMAT Please ensure that all papers are clearly typed and that all sections are double-spaced. Manuscript pages should be numbered and heading hierarchy should be clearly differentiated. The number of heading levels used should be kept to a maximum of three.
MANUSCRIPT SPECIFICATIONS Please submit manuscripts by e-mail. Alternatively, manuscripts can be sent on disk (in a PC-compatible format) accompanied by four paper copies, typewritten and double spaced with wide margins as follows:
- Title page: detailing the full names, affiliations and addresses of all the contributors, and telephone and fax numbers for the corresponding (main) author. A running title of not more than 50 characters (including spaces) should be supplied.
- Abstract: this should not exceed 200 words. Original research papers should have abstracts structured using the following sub-headings: Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
- Key points: up to five key points should be provided. These should be short sentences that highlight the paper's most important information.
- Keywords: five key words as derived from Index Medicus should be supplied for indexing purposes.
- Introduction

- Acknowledgements
- References
- Tables
- Figures
- Measurements: should be given in SI units, although older conventional units can also be included in parentheses
- Abbreviations: expect for units of measurement, these should be spelled out on first use and should be standard
- Drug names: should be generic, although brand names can be added in parentheses where appropriate
FINAL VERSION After the article has been accepted for publication, the final version should be re-supplied by e-mail or on disk with an identical hard copy. Please use IBM compatible disks if possible with details of the word-processing software used.
TABLES Please supply tables on separate pages and number them consecutively with Arabic numerals; they should include a brief descriptive caption.
ILLUSTRATIONS All illustrations (including line drawings and photographs) should be referred to in the text as 'Figure 1', 'Figures 1-4', using Arabic numbers. Each figure must be cited in the text. The title of the paper and the author(s)'s names should be marked carefully on a label on the back of illustrations (avoid writing on original artwork where possible). Where there is doubt as to the orientation of a figure, the top should be marked with an arrow. Each illustration should be accompanied by a legend describing it clearly, and all legends should be grouped together at the end of the paper.
Line drawings These should either be provided as clear, sharp, glossy black and white prints, or as electronic files (in .tif or .eps format only, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi), and should be about 1?times the intended final size. Lettering should be uniform and minimal, and lines should be of sufficient thickness to stand reduction.
Photographs and photomicrographs These should be submitted as either high-quality, unmounted glossy prints or as electronic files in the same format as mentioned above. The magnification should be indicated by a bar on the photograph.
Colour Two-colour illustrations will be accepted when deemed necessary by the Editors.
REFERENCES Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Articles 'in press' may be included, but must state the journal that has accepted them. Person communications should be avoided. References should follow the Vancouver system: in the text each reference is cited by a superscript number, starting at 1. At the end of the paper they should be listed (double-spaced) in numerical order, corresponding to the order of citation in the text. If there are more than four authors, list the first three authors only and use 'et al.' Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the current edition of Index Medicus.

Papers may not be published elsewhere without prior written permission from the publisher and the Editors. The publisher will not reject any reasonable request from an author to reproduce extracts from a paper elsewhere provided that appropriate acknowledgement is made to International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST Authors are requested to disclose any commercial or other associations that might pose a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article. All funding sources supporting the work, and institutional and corporate affiliations of the authors must be acknowledged on the title page.
PROOFS AND REPRINTS One set of proofs will be sent to the named author at the 'correspondence e-mail address' unless otherwise requested (alternative instructions must be stated clearly on the manuscript title page). The corrected proofs must be returned to the publisher within 3 days by express mail. Excessive alterations (over 10%) to proofs may be charged to the author. Offprints may be ordered using the form accompanying the proofs. Charges are higher if reprint requests are ordered after the issue has gone to press.
PERMISSIONS Please ensure that material copied from other sources is accompanied by clear written statements from both the author and publisher giving permission to International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice for reproduction. Obtain permission in writing from at least one author of papers still in press, of unpublished data and of personal communications. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that permissions are obtained. |
