About the journal
The journal covers all aspects of industrial and occupational ergonomics, including such topics as human productivity, work-station design, methods engineering, design-oriented cognitive engineering, musculoskeletal injuries, design of tools, machines, controls and displays, safety, physical/mental stress and fatigue, modelling of the human body and human response behaviour, environmental stresses, etc. Moreover, the journal encourages the submission of articles dealing with the application of ergonomic principles to advanced manufacturing, such as FMS, interface design and robotics, as well as the submission of non-traditional articles, such as those involving the application of computers and systems methodologies to ergonomics. From time to time, the journal publishes special editions dealing with pressing ergonomic issues.
Instructions to Authors
The journal publishes:
- original full-length articles reporting on experimental and theoretical basic research
- case studies and short communications
- general surveys and critical reviews
- book reviews
- a FOCUS section, in which the following are included: reports of meetings, conference announcements, etc.
Authors interested in writing State-of-the-Art Review Papers and Ergonomic Guidelines should contact the Editor-in-Chief and suggest possible topics.
All papers are refereed and are expected to attain a high standard of content, clarity and conciseness.
Papers should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, Professor A. Mital, University of Cincinnati, Ergonomics and Engineering Controls Research Laboratory, Cincinnati, OH 45221-0116, USA, or to one of the Editors: Professor R. Kadefors, Lindholmen Development, PO Box 402 75, Gotheburg, Sweden; Professor S. Kumar, Dept. of Physical Therapy, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T6G 2G4; or Professor J.D. Ramsey, Office of Executive Vice President and Provost, Texas Tech Universtity, Lubbock, TX 79409-2019, USA.
Four copies of the manuscript should be submitted in double-spaced typing on pages of uniform size with a wide margin on the left. The top copy should bear the name and full postal address of the person to whom proofs are to be sent. The second page should contain the following information (in order): abstract (100-200 words), relevance to industry (25-50 words), and keywords (5-6).
The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by author, giving the complete source citation. Journal titles will be abbreviated in accordance with the Engineering Index system. Authors unfamiliar with this system may give full titles without abbreviation. In the text, references should be cited by author's name and year.
All illustrations and tables should be numbered consecutively and separately throughout the paper. Line drawings should be in a form suitable for reproduction, drawn in Indian ink on drawing paper. They should preferably all require the same degree of reduction, and should be submitted on paper of the same size, or smaller than, the main text, to prevent damage in transit. Photographs should be submitted as clear black-and-white prints on glossy paper. Each illustration must be clearly numbered. Legends ot the illustrations must be submitted in a separate list.
The principal language of the journal is English.
Authors will receive proofs by e-mail, which they are requested to correct and return within 48 hours. No new material may be inserted in the text at the time of proofreading.
A total of 50 reprints of each paper will be supplied free of charge to the author(s). Additional copies can be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form which accompanies the page proofs. Authors are also entitled to a 30% discount on all Elsevier Science books.
