About the journal
This refereed quarterly journal is established to distribute information of significant researches, theoretical works, technical and methodological applications, case studies, short communications, and surveys and reviews concerned with the traditional or core Industrial Engineering areas to both researchers and practitioners. The coverage of the traditional areas of Industrial Engineering is at present scanty and scattered over a wide range of journals which have a narrow focus. The exceptionally long delays in publication and dissemination of information further limits the benefits to researchers and practitioners. This new international periodical will be dedicated to the traditional areas of Industrial Engineering that presently do not receive adequate coverage and will make available new developments in these areas promptly to its readers. The journal is also intended to bring together, in one place, developments in core Industrial Engineering areas that are of interest to both researchers and practitioners.
The journal emphasizes use of engineering design and analysis and would strive to maintain a balance between research and application. The journal will cover: (1) Computational Intelligence in Industrial Engineering, (2) Consumer Product Design, (3) Engineering Economy and Cost Estimation, (4) Facilities Design and Location, (5) Information Systems, (6) Maintenance Engineering and Management, (7) Materials Handling, (8) Performance Analysis and Simulation, (9) Production Systems Design, Planning and Control, (10) Productivity and Business Strategies, (11) Project Management, (12) Technology Management and Transfer, (13) Total Quality Management and Quality Technology, and (14) Work Measurement and Methods Engineering. The journal would particularly encourage interdisciplinary studies requiring the use of traditional Industrial Engineering techniques and methodologies. From time-to-time, the journal will publish invited keynote papers and special issues devoted to specific topics. In addition to technical articles, the journal will also publish book reviews, calendar of events, conference announcements and reports, calls for papers, and significant Industrial Engineering news
Instructions to Authors
Submission of Manuscripts and Review Process
The language of the journal is English. Interested authors should submit the original with 3 copies of their manuscript to an Area Editor or the Editor-in-Chief (addresses are given on the inside of the front cover). Manuscript should be prepared in accordance with Authors guide. For further details, please refer to a paper published in a recent issue of the journal.
All technical submissions will be reviewed by at least two referees, well versed in the developments in the subject matter, to guarantee an objective evaluation. Acceptance of manuscripts will be strictly based on the advice of the referees. Manuscripts will be reviewed promptly and scheduled for publication as soon as possible.
International Journal of Industrial Engineering - Applications and Practice. The journal is registered with the Library of Congress (ISSN # 1072-4761) and the Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise, without the prior written permission of the journal. Permission is given for copying of articles for personal or internal use, or for the personal use of specific clients, on the condition that the copier pay through the Copyright Clearance Center (Tel. 508-744-3350) the per-copy fee ($6.00 + $0.02/ page) for copying beyond that permitted by Sections 107 or 108 of the U.S. Copyright Law.  Anil Mital, Ph.D., P.E.
Dr. Mital is Professor and former Director of Industrial Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with Gold Medal from Allahabad University, India, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University and Texas Tech University, respectively. He is a registered Professional Engineer and author/coauthor of over 300 technical publications including 113 journal papers and 13 books. His publications have covered topics such as Economics Justification, Work Measurement, Metal Cutting, Facilities Design, and Quality Control. Dr. Mital is a recipient of the 1984 Sigma Xi Distinguished Research Award, 1985 Ralph R. Teetor Outstanding Engineering Educator Award (SAE), 1988 Eugent L. Grant Award for the Best Paper published in The Engineering Economist, 1989 IIE Ergonomics Division Award for Outstanding Achievements in Ergonomics and Industrial Engineering, and Distinguished Achievement Award of the International Foundation for Industrial Ergonomics and Safety Research, 1993. he has also consulted with a variety of industries including Cincinnati Bell, Ford Motor Co., Ethicon, Fibresec, DuPont, Remington, Kroger, and Cinpac.
