Published monthly the International Journal of Dermatology is specifically designed to provide dermatologists around the world with a regular, up-to-date source of information on all aspects of the diagnosis and management of skin diseases. While individual issues of the journal are often created with a general theme to accommodate the coverage of topics of current concern, accepted articles regularly cover clinical trials; education; morphology; pharmacology and therapeutics; case reports, and reviews. Additional features include tropical medical reports, news, correspondence, proceedings and transactions, and education.
The International Journal of Dermatology is guided by a distinguished, international editorial board and emphasizes a global approach to continuing medical education for physicians and other providers of health care with a specific interest in problems relating to the skin.
Instructions to Authors
The International Journal of Dermatology is a journal of continuing medical education. The editors welcome manuscripts dealing with cutaneous medicine and surgery and other subjects of interest to dermatologists.
Manuscripts should be sent to:

Contributions should be written for one of the following categories:
Cameo A report of 400-800 words, illustrated by no more than three illustrations. This category offers a means for rapid communication about a single subject.
Clinical Trial An article of 700-1200 words concerning a drug evaluation. This category provides rapid publications and is meant to be a succinct presentation with a minimum of graphs and tables.
Commentary An editorial 700-1200 words in length with approximately five references. The author may express his or her opinion without complete documentation.
Correspondence Letters to the editor and short notes. Contributions should not exceed 600 words, two figures, and 10 references.
Dermatological Surgery An article relating to the surgical aspects of treatment (see Report for format).
Education An article about the methodology of curriculum and instruction in dermatology, about 2500 words.
Morphology A photographic essay that emphasizes one or two photographs, in colour. There should be accompanying text and references, but the entire article will appear on one printed page.
Pharmacology and Therapeutics An article relating to the treatment of diseases and to the pharmacology of dermatologically related drugs. (See Report for format.)
Reminiscence An article on the history of dermatology or skin diseases; also a biographic account of an historic or noteworthy figure in dermatology.
Report An original article including, whenever possible, an Introduction, Materials and Methods or Case Report(s), Results, Comment, and References. A Structured Abstract of not more than 250 words must be included. It should consist of four paragraphs, labeled Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. It should describe the problem studies, how the study was performed, the main results, and what the author(s) concluded from the results.
Review A major didactic article that clarifies and summarizes the existing knowledge in a particular field. It should not be an exhaustive review of the literature, and references should not exceed 50 in number. Tables, diagrams, and selected figures are often helpful. The length is left to the judgment of the author, although it generally should not exceed 5000 words.
Tropical Medicine Rounds An article dealing with the diseases and special problems encountered by dermatologists working in the tropics.
Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate, word-processed with double-spacing and a wide margin on one side only. For each article, a title page must be provided bearing the title of the paper, the author(s)' name(s), degrees, and affiliation(s), and three key words for indexing purposes. The name and full postal address (and also the phone, fax number and email address) of the author who will be responsible for reading the proofs must also be given on the title page. Pages should be numbered. Authors must keep a copy of their manuscript. A diskette copy of the final version of the article should be sent to the editor on acceptance.
Contributions are accepted for publication on condition that they are submitted exclusively to the International Journal of Dermatology, and all authors must give signed consent to publication in a letter sent with the manuscript. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to make literary corrections. Authorship implies a substantial contribution. Authors must inform the Editor-in-Chief of any possible conflict of interest capable of influencing their judgment. Perusal of unsubmitted data used may be requested by the Editor-in-Chief. Papers accepted become the copyright of the Journal and will not be published unless a signed Copyright Assignment Form is received.
Unaccepted manuscripts will be returned by regular mail.
When referring to a drug, please use the generic name approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration or recognized as the United States Adopted Name. At the end of the manuscript, please list the American Trade names.
All measurements should be according to the metric system. If confusion could result, please include other measurement systems in parentheses.
Refer to patients by number or letters; names or initials should not be used. Photographs of patients must be accompanied by a statement of consent signed by the patient.
References must be listed in the order in which they appear in the manuscript. References from journals should include: (1) name(s) followed by the initials of the author(s), up to four authors: if more than four authors, include the first three authors followed by et al.; (2) title of paper; (3) title of the journal as abbreviated in the Index Medicus; (4) year of publication; (5) volume number; (6) first and final page numbers of the article.

References to books should include: (1) author(s) or editor(s); (2) chapter (if any) book titles; (3) edition, volume, etc.; (4) place of publication; (5) publisher; (6) year; (7) page(s) referred to.
For example: Parish LC, Witkowski JA, Vassileva S. Color Atlas of Cutaneous Infections. Cambridge, MA: Blackwell Science, 1995: 1-177.
The author is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references; incomplete references may result in a delay to publication.
Tables should be typed, double-spaced with a heading, each on a separate sheet, and should only include essential information. Drawings, graphs, and formulas should be submitted on separate pages.
Illustrations should be high-contrast, glossy prints. The name of the senior author and the figure number should be written lightly in pencil on the reverse side. The orientation should also be indicated on the reverse by marking the top with an arrow. When color illustrations are provided, also send black and white glossies. Final decisions regarding the use of color are left to the discretion of the Editor. It is the policy of the journal that authors pay the full cost for the reproduction of their colour work unless otherwise agreed by the editor. Therefore, please note that if there is colour artwork in your manuscript when it is accepted for publication, and it has not been agreed with the editor that the journal will meet the costs of colour, Blackwell Publishing require that you complete and return a colour agreement form before your paper can be published. This form can be downloaded as a PDF* from the internet. The web address for the form is: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/Sub3000_X_CoW.pdf If you are unable to access the internet, or are unable to download the form, please contact the Editorial Office at the address above and they will be able to email or FAX a form to you. Once completed please return the form to the Production Editor at the address below.
The International Journal of Dermatology, Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 23 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh EH3 6AJ, UK.
Any article received by Blackwell Publishing with colour work not being paid by the journal on agreement with the editor will not be published until the form has been returned.
Send illustrations in duplicate with legends listed on a separate page. In the case of photomicrographs the original magnification should be stated. Each figure should bear a reference number corresponding to a similar number in the text. Illustrations that have previously appeared elsewhere must be submitted with a legal release from the holder of their copyrights, usually the original publisher.
In the full-text online edition of the journal, figure legends may be truncated in abbreviated links to the full screen version. Therefore, the first 100 characters of any legend should inform the reader of key aspects of the figure.
