About the journal
|
The International Journal of Communication Systems provides a forum for R&D, open to researchers from all types of institutions and organisations worldwide, aimed at the increasingly important area of communication technology. The Journal's emphasis is particularly on the issues impacting behaviour at the system, service and management levels. Published ten times a year, it provides coverage of advances that have a significant potential to impact the immense technical and commercial opportunities in the communications sector. The International Journal of Communication Systems strives to select a balance of contributions that promotes technical innovation allied to practical relevance across the range of system types and issues.
The Journal addresses both public communication systems (Telecommunication, mobile, Internet, and Cable TV) and private systems (Intranets, enterprise networks, LANs, MANs, WANs). The following key areas and issues are regularly covered:
- Transmission/Switching/Distribution technologies (ATM, SDH, TCP/IP, routers, DSL, cable modems, VoD, WDM, etc.)
- System control, network/service management
- Network and Internet protocols and standards
- Client-server, distributed and Web-based communication systems
- Broadband and multimedia systems and applications, with a focus on increased service variety and interactivity
- Trials of advanced systems and services; their implementation and evaluation
- Novel concepts and improvements in technique; their theoretical basis and performance analysis using measurement/testing, modelling and simulation
- Performance evaluation issues and methods.
The Journal has a prime remit to publish first-class original papers providing in-depth analysis of R&D work, and Special Issues are produced that comprise many papers focusing on a particular theme. A further crucial role for the Journal is to enable the reader to identify emerging principles and trends in the communications arena. Papers that will aid cross-fertilisation between disciplines are encouraged. Case studies that describe practical applications of communication technologies are welcomed. Tutorial and review articles will also be featured on a regular basis.
Review Policy: the review policy of the International Journal of Communication Systems is based on the following guidelines:
- Manuscripts are submitted with the understanding that the same work has not been published or is not under consideration elsewhere
- All papers will be subject to a well-established fair and unbiased peer review process by experts in the field
- Authors should obtain company and government clearances prior to submission of manuscripts
- Editors reserve the right to reject papers if they do not meet the Aims and Scope of the Journal, if they are excessively long, or if they are not adequately presented
- The review process will always ensure the anonymity of the referees
- The publisher reserves the right to charge authors of very long accepted papers a charge of $100 for each extra printed page beyond 20 printed pages.

Instructions to Authors
Instructions to Authors
Initial manuscript submission (for refereeing purposes)
Submit an electronic copy (Word or PDF) of the manuscript (with tables and illustrations embedded in the text) as an e-mail attachment to Dr John Fox (fox.comsys@btinternet.com) or Professor Mohammad S. Obaidat (obaidat@monmouth.edu). Alternatively submission can be made to that member of the Editorial Advisory Board who, in the opinion of the Author, is most closely concerned with the subject matter of the paper.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley.
Please ensure use of the reference number assigned to your paper in all further communications to prohibit delay in publication.
Final manuscript submission (for publication purposes)
After acceptance, the final, revised manuscript should be sent to the Editor as an e-mail attachment. We are able to use most word-processing packages, but prefer Word, WordPerfect or TeX or one of its derivatives.
Authors must also supply:
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form. Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript.
Manuscript style (publication format). The language of the journal is English. All submissions must have a title and be double-line spaced in a single column. Illustrations and tables should not be incorporated into the text.
-
Illustrations should preferably be supplied (as separate files) in TIFF or EPS format, together with the source file. The files and packages should be listed in the email.
-
For TeX submissions, please ensure a single file Word or PDF version is included for Editorial office records in the format used for initial submission.
-
The title page must list the full title and the names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
-
Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
-
Supply a summary of up to 200 words for all articles. This is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
-
Include up to eight key words that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
-
Supply a brief biography and recent photograph of each author.
Reference style. References should be marked in the text using Arabic numerals [in square brackets] and listed at the end of the paper in numerical order. All references must be complete and accurate. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
-
Tsai KC, Chen C. Two algorithms for multi-constrained optimal multicast routing. International Journal of Communication Systems 2003; 16(10): 951-973.
-
Nicopolitidis N, Obaidat MS, Papadimitriou GP, Pomportsis AS. Wireless Networks. Wiley: Chichester, UK, 2003.
Illustrations. Electronic versions of the artwork should be supplied at the intended size for printing; the maximum column width is 143 mm. Tints are not acceptable; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. If colour illustrations are supplied, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience website.
Copyright. To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in the first issue of each volume of the International Journal of Communication Systems. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Further information. Proofs will be sent to the author for checking via e-mail. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimize the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. Twenty-five complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered.
