About the journal
The International Journal of Cast Metals Research (formerly Cast Metals) is the only specialised peer-review journal in the field of solidification and casting research. It is the main journal used by those working in the science and engineering of cast metals and the casting process.
The journal has a two tier referee system, ensuring the highest quality of published papers. Professor Brian Cantor of the University of Oxford heads the highly esteemed international Editorial Board, which comprises leading academics and researchers in the field.
Castings Technology International underwrites the costs of producing the journal with sponsorship from The Japan Foundry Engineering Society and The Korean Foundrymen’s Society. This allows companies, further education institutes and individuals access to the results of R&D programmes throughout the world, at minimal cost.
Instructions to Authors
Submissions
Papers submitted for publication must be in English and should be sent in triplicate (including figures and photographs) to:
Managing Editor, International Journal of Cast Metals Research, Castings Technology International, 7 East Bank Rd, Sheffield,
S2 3PT, UK
or can be emailed to r.hodkin@castingstechnology.com
All papers submitted for publication must report original work, comments on previously published papers or observations on the latest practices and processes. There is no limit on the length of articles, and both short notes and review articles are welcomed. All papers are sent to two independent referees and authors will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
Manuscripts should be typed, double- spaced, on one side of the paper only. The order of the paper should be (a) title page (b) summary (approximately 150 words) (c) text (d) references (e) appendices (f) tables and (g) figure captions. The title page must include the title of the paper, authors’ names, current places of work, and notice of where the work was carried out, if different. Headings and sub-headings in the main text must be clearly indicated.
Disk specification
Papers can be accepted on floppy disk in:

References to articles in journals should be presented in the following manner:
Author names (initials first), "Title of the paper", Name of Journal, Year of publication, Volume number, Page numbers
Example
I.L. Svensson and P. Schmidt, "Thermal expansion of gases at the metal/mould interface in permanent-mould casting", Cast Metals, 1993, 6, 127-130.
References to books and conference proceedings should be presented in the following manner:
Author names (initials first) , Title of Book or Conference Paper, Edited by name (Publisher of Book or Conference, Place of Publication, Year of publication), page numbers.
Example
W.J. Jackson & M.W. Hubbard, Steelmaking for steelfounders (Steel Castings Research and Trade Association, Sheffield 1979) pp.121-142.
Tables
Tables must be numbered and referred to sequentially in the text. Tables must have a descriptive caption.
Figure captions
All figures, photographs and photomicrographs must have a sequential number, a descriptive caption and must be mentioned in the text in the correct order. The captions should be listed separately and not included in the drawing.
Figures
Line drawings should be drawn in black ink on white paper or tracing paper. Lettering, lines and symbols on figures must be capable of being reduced to a final figure width of 80mm. Papers will not be accepted unless suitable figures are supplied.
Photographs and photomicrographs
For best results, photographs should be in black and white and with good contrast. Photomicrographs should not bear the legend "magnification x100" or similar. Instead a scale bar should be superimposed on the print. All photographs should have the figure number marked lightly on the back and must be referred to in the text.
Copyright
It is a condition of publication that, on publication, all papers become the publishers copyright. This does not affect the intellectual property rights of the authors.

Offprints
Authors will receive 25 offprints of their articles free of charge. Additional copies can be ordered at cost.
