About the journal The IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine (T-ITB) publishes high quality papers that reflect new and innovative information technology advances in healthcare, medicine and biology. Papers dealing with evaluation of implemented systems, the context of their use and deployment, the ethical and legal issues, including safety and security, surrounding the deployment, use and development of standards, and educational issues are also encouraged. Topics to be covered include
- wireless communication and mobility, PDA’s, anytime anywhere access to information,
- human computer interfacing and usability engineering,
- wellness, pervasive healthcare utilising e.g. ubiquitous computing, smart environments, embedded and wearable sensors,
- collaborative technologies in health care delivery, including telemedicine,
- community health information networks, hospital information systems and clinical information systems, including PACS and disease management systems,
- intelligent interpretation of health data, decision support systems, computer assisted, remote guidance and virtual reality applications in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures,
- visualisation and biomedical imaging technologies,
- interoperability, connectivity, semantics, syntax, vocabulary, terminology, standards, EBM, clinical guidelines / pathways, protocols,
- privacy, security, trust, PKI, smart card technology,
- architectures, component based approaches based on e.g. UML and MDA,
- Internet, semantic web, peer-to-peer computing, WWW tools in biomedical applications,
- GRID computing in biomedicine,
- bioinformatics, e.g. database structures & 3-D modelling, pattern matching, algorithms (neural, intelligent, …), proteomics and microarray technologies,
- computational biology,
- Bio-IT, e.g. biologically inspired robotics and artefacts including adaptive artefacts,
- biocomplexity, including e.g. organ level modelling and visualisation activities like physiome and beating heart.
The journal appears four times per year.
Instructions to Authors Submission, handling, review and possible resubmission of manuscripts etc. all take place via Manuscript Central. In order to be able to submit a manuscript you will have to create a usercode the first time you log into the system. This system allows you to upload the manuscript and enter your contact details. It also contains an on-line help system to assist you in the process. After the manuscript is uploaded into the system you will receive a confirmation e-mail. The document will then be processed; an associate editor and reviewers will be assigned and they will obtain the manuscript and upload their reviews via the same system. The authors will receive reviewers' feedback on the manuscript together with the Editor-in-Chief's decision via e-mail.
- The aim is to complete the review process within 6 weeks after submission.
- In case the Editor-in-Chief decides that a Minor Revision is needed you are encouraged to resubmit a revised version of the manuscript within 1 month. If no new version is not submitted within that period the manuscript will be removed from the review process.
- In case the Editor-in-Chief decides that a Major Revision is needed you are encouraged to resubmit a revised version of the manuscript within 3 months. If no new version is not submitted within that period the manuscript will be removed from the review process.
- If the (revised) manuscript is accepted for publication you will need to send paper copies, a copyright transfer form, an electronic version of the paper as well as photographs and short biographies of the authors to the Editor-in-Chief.
- Exact details about the format of different documents needed as well as more detailed guidelines can be found in the 'submission kit'
