About the journal
Human and Ecological Risk Assessment is the first journal devoted to providing a framework for professionals researching and assessing developments in both human and ecological risk assessments. The journal was created to enhance the communication and cooperation of professionals working on human risk assessment with those in the ecological risk assessment domain. Given the rapid development in these respective disciplines and their unique potential interrelatedness, efforts to directly enhance technical information transfer will markedly benefit each field. Human and Ecological Risk Assessment is a quarterly, international, peer-reviewed publication.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
- The entire manuscript must be typed double-spaced (including title page, text, references, footnotes, figure legends, and tables)
- Title page, abstract page, references, and figure legends must be on separate pages.
- The title page must include the title, authors?names and addresses, and phone and fax numbers and email address of corresponding author.
- All manuscripts must be accompanied by an abstract not to exceed 200 words as well as a list of three to six key (indexing) terms. The key terms must follow the abstract and be on the same page.
- A running head not to exceed 60 characters, including spaces, must appear only on the title page, placed near the bottom..
- Each page should contain line numbers in the left-hand margin.
- All pages must be numbered consecutively in the lower righthand comer, starting with the title page and including pages containing tables and figure legends.
- Tables, figure legends, and furnished art should be grouped together at the end of the manuscript to facilitate processing.
- Times Roman is the preferred typeface for printouts of manuscripts.
- Two-sided printouts are acceptable for peer reviewers (i.e., first submission of manuscript), but one-sided printouts are required for publication (i.e., final submission of manuscript).
- Copies made by a clearly legible duplication process are required.
- Send one original and three copies (original and one copy after publication acceptance and without line numbers) of your manuscript to the HERA Editorial Office.
- A computer diskette containing the final manuscript must be provided upon acceptance for publication, preferably using WordPerfect or Microsoft Word programs.?Indicate on the diskette whether it's an IBM or Macintosh platform and the version used (5.1, 6.0, etc.).
- Authors should write in clear, concise English. The responsibility for all aspects of manuscript preparation rests with the authors. Extensive changes or rewriting of the manuscript will not be undertaken by the Editor.
- It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission to use previously published material. Permission must be obtained from the original copyright owner, which in most cases is the publisher.
TABLES Tables should be used only when they can present information more effectively than running text. Care should be taken to avoid any arrangement that unduly increases the size of a table, and the column heads should be made as brief as possible, using abbreviations liberally. Lines of data must not be numbered unless those numbers are needed for reference in the text. Columns should not be used to contain only one or two entries, nor should the same entry be repeated numerous times consecutively. Tables should be grouped at the end of the manuscript on separate sheets. Do not put tables in separate boxes on disk. Titles should be typed above tables, using the format illustrated inside the parentheses (e.g., Table 1. Sensitivity analysis for the various risk assessment methods.).
FIGURES AND GRAPHS Figures and graphs should be carefully prepared line drawings on plain paper or camera-ready micrographs or halftones. Symbols (open or closed circles, triangles, squares) and lettering (typewriter labeling is not acceptable) should be compatibly sized for optimum reproduction. Figures must be numbered in series on back with author抯 name(s) indicated. Figure captions must be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet, using the same format as that for titles of tables. Both figures and captions should be grouped at the end of the manuscript. Color reproduction in figures is possible, provided the author bears all incremental page charges. An estimate of these charges will be given upon request. A letter acknowledging the author's willingness to defray the cost of color reproduction must accompany the revised manuscript.
