Instructions to Authors
Instructions to Authors Heart and Vessels Manuscripts should be submitted online to the Editorial Office: Ethics Manuscript submission via Editorial Manager Preparation of Manuscript Offprints Open Choice Artwork Guidelines
Manuscripts should be submitted online to the Editorial Office: http://www.editorialmanager.com/heve/
Ethics Articles in which studies on humans are described must include a statement that the study was given approval by an institutional review committee and that informed consent was given by the subjects. Any reports of studies on animals or humans must indicate that procedures followed institutional guidelines.
Manuscript submission via Editorial Manager Authors should submit their manuscripts to Heart and Vessels online. Please log in directly at: http://www.editorialmanager.com/heve/and upload your manuscript following the instructions provided. If you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript online, click on Help in the upper left-hand corner.
1) Editorial Manager requirements Windows or Macintosh computer capable of running Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later, and either Internet Explorer 5.0 or later or Netscape 7 or later.
- Electronic files of Manuscript - Electronic files of Figures - Electronic files of Tables
2) Author accounts Authors entering the journal抯 Editorial Manager site can either create a new account or use an existing one. If you have an existing account, use it for all your submissions; you can track their status on the same page. If you have forgotten your username and password, please click the link 揝end Username/Password?and enter your e-mail address. You will then receive an automatic e-mail with your username and password. Alternatively, please create a new account and then follow the instructions provided on the screen.
3) Getting started Once you have logged into your account, Editorial Manager will lead you through the submission process in an orderly, step-by-step manner. If you cannot finish your submission in one session, you can save a draft and resume the process later at the same point for that manuscript. While submitting your electronic manuscript, you will be required to enter data about it in the system. This includes the full title, author names and affiliations, and so forth, as listed below under Preparation of Manuscript. Support for special characters is available. At any point during this process, you can click on the Help button for answers to frequently asked questions.
4) Uploading files Manuscript: The manuscript should be uploaded in rich text format (RTF) or as a Microsoft Word document (.doc). Figures: Common graphic files such as GIF, JPEG, EPS, and TIFF are supported. Please submit figures in an electronic format according to Artwork Guidelines provided toward the end of this document. Tables: Use the table functions of your word-processing program, not spreadsheets, to make tables. Tables may be uploaded separately from the manuscript or inserted into it.
After uploading the parts of the article in this manner, the system will convert the files to PDF format. You can view the result of the conversion with Adobe Acrobat Reader. You will also be notified by e-mail that your submission was successful. At any point during this process, you can click on the Help button for answers to frequently asked questions. If the total size of the files exceeds the maximum file volume (20 MB) for online submission, please reduce the resolution of large files for your initial submission. In this case, you may be requested to provide figures of sufficient quality for printing later if your manuscript is accepted for publication.
5) Keeping track After submission, you may return periodically and monitor the progress of your submission throughout the review process.
Preparation of Manuscript Manuscripts must be written in English, typed double-spaced with wide margins, and should be checked carefully to minimize changes in proofs. All manuscripts should be paginated. Articles may be in the form of Original articles (Clinical investigation / Basic science), Case reports, Short communications, Graphic reports, Letters, and Invited reviews. Only review articles invited by the editors of the journal are accepted.
The title page should include: the title of the article, first name(s) and surname(s) of the author(s), the institute, any footnotes to the title, and the address to which proofs should be sent. To facilitate communication between the authors, editors, and publisher, the author should furnish a telephone number, fax number and an e-mail address on the title page of the manuscript.
Abstract/Key words: Each article should be preceded by an abstract; 4-5 key words which are suitable for use in indexing should be included.
Sub-headings: The original articles and short communications should, if possible, be set out under the following subheadings:
?Introduction ?Materials and methods ?Results ?Discussion ?Acknowledgments ?References
References to the literature in the text should be indicated by superscript numbers. The bibliography should include only works referred to in the text that have been accepted for publication, and should be listed at the end of the article. References should appear in the order in which they are first cited in the text, and should be typed double-spaced according to the following formats:

The previously published source should also be included in the list of references.
Figures in color: Color figures will be accepted; however, the authors will be expected to make a contribution towards the extra costs for printing (?10,000 for the first and ?0,000 for each additional page). Color figures under the heading 揋raphic reports?will be published without charge only if the editors decide that color reproduction is essential.
Tables: Tables should be typed on separate sheets, numbered with Arabic numbers, and given a title.
Offprints Offprints of each article are available in lots of 100. To order these, fill out the order form sent with the proofs.
Open Choice In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular 搒ubscription-based?article, but is also made publicly available through Springer抯 online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit www.springer.com/ openchoice to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will be published as regular subscription-model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for already published articles.
Artwork Guidelines Electronic Figure Submission - Supply all figures electronically. - Indicate what graphics program was used to create the artwork. - For vector graphics, the preferred format is EPS; for halftones, please use TIFF format. MS Office files are also acceptable. - Use of double-byte characters should be avoided. - Vector graphics containing fonts must have the fonts embedded in the files. - Name your figure files with "Fig" and the figure number, e.g., Fig1.eps.
Line Art - Definition: Black and white graphic with no shading. - Do not use faint lines and/or lettering, and check that all lines and lettering within the figures are legible at final size. - All lines should be at least 0.1 mm (0.3 pt) wide. - Line drawings should have a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi. - Vector graphics containing fonts must have the fonts embedded in the files.
Halftone Art - Definition: Photographs, drawings, or paintings with fine shading, etc. - If any magnification is used in the photographs, indicate this by using scale bars within the figures themselves. - Halftones should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
Combination Art - Definition: a combination of halftone and line art, e.g., halftones containing line drawing, extensive lettering, color diagrams, etc. - Combination artwork should have a minimum resolution of 600 dpi.
Color Art - Color illustrations should be submitted as RGB (8 bits per channel).
Figure Lettering - To add lettering, it is best to use a sans-serif font such as Helvetica or Arial. - Keep lettering consistently sized throughout your final-sized artwork, usually about 2? mm (8?2 pt). - Variance of type size within an illustration should be minimal, e.g., do not use 8-pt type on an axis and 20-pt type for the axis label. - Avoid effects such as shading, outline letters, etc. - Do not include titles or captions in your illustrations.
Figure Placement and Size - When preparing your figures, size figures to fit within the column width. - Figures should be 41 mm, 86 mm, 131 mm, or 176 mm wide and not higher than 234 mm.
