Aims and Scope:
Fiber and Integrated Optics, now incorporating The International Journal of Optoelectronics, is an international bimonthly journalthat disseminates significant developments and in-depth surveys in the fields of fiber and integrated optics. The journal is unique in bridging the major disciplines relevant to optical fibers and electro-optical devices. This results in a balanced presentation of basic research, systems applications, and economics. For more than a decade, Fiber and Integrated Optics has been a valuable forum for scientists, engineers, manufacturers, and the business community to exchange and discuss techno-economic advances in the field.
Readership:
Scientists and engineers, as well as managers and business people, concerned with recent research and advances in optical fibers and electro-optical devices.
Abstracting Information:
Fiber and Integrated Optics is currently abstracted/indexed in the following databases:Automatic Subject Citation Alert; Chemical Abstracts; CSA Computer & Information Systems Abstracts; CSA Electronics & Communication Abstracts; CSA Engineered Materials Abstracts & METADEX Current Contents/Engineering, Computing, and Technology; Electrical and Electronics Abstracts; Engineering Index, Engineering Information; Engineering Materials Abstracts; Journal of Current Laser Abstracts; Laser Focus; Materials Science Citation Index; Physics Abstracts; Science Research Abstracts, Part B; SciSerach; Research Alert.

Instructions to Authors
Transfer of Copyright Agreement
Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be submitted to Alex Patino, Managing Editor, IPITEK, 2330 Faraday Avenue, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a short-ended version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more that 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal's web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com.
Affiliation
On the title page include (in the following order) title, names of authors, affiliations and the address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent.
Spelling, Hyphenation, and Scientific Notation
The spelling and hyphenation authority is Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition. The System International (SI) or modern metric units are to be used. If some data are traditionally quoted in the English system, they can be put in parentheses following the metric unit, e.g., 0.47 GN/m2 (68,000 psi).
Equations
Equations should be neatly typed or written in ink, punctuated, and aligned to bring out their structure, and numbered on the right. Use X rather than a centered dot, except for scalar products of vectors. The diagonal line (/) should be used instead of built-up fractions in the running text, and in display unless the denominator is complicated. The symbol exp [ ] instead of e( ) should be used for complicated arguments of the exponential function.
Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good-quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will he charged an additional 25 mpercent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
References
References must be typed on a separate sheet and numbered consecutively in the order of their first appearance in the text. Within the text the reference numbers should be set in brackets [ ]. The references, on the separate sheet, should use the format from the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. See examples provided below.

Proofs
All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted.
Reprints
Each author of the article will receive a complete copy of the issue in which the article appears, up to a total of 3 copies per article. The corresponding author is responsible for distribution of copies to co-authors. Reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis by using the reprint order form included with page proofs.
