About the journal

Dynamical Systems: An International Journal is published four times a year in print and electronic editions.

The primary goal of Dynamical Systems: An International Journal (founded as Dynamics and Stability of Systems) is to act as a forum for communication across all branches of modern dynamical systems, and especially to facilitate interaction between theory and applications. This journal aims to publish high quality research articles in the theory and applications of dynamical systems, especially but not exclusively nonlinear systems. Advances in the following topics will be addressed by the journal:

  • Applications in the sciences and engineering
  • Bifurcation theory
  • Differential equations
  • Hamiltonian and Lagrangian dynamics
  • Hyperbolic dynamics
  • Ergodic theory
  • Invariant sets and manifolds
  • Topological and smooth dynamics
  • Random dynamical systems

There is no formal page limit and longer manuscripts will be considered; however we intend to offer fast refereeing to short papers (of 5000 words or less than 8 pages in final form).

As the remit of the journal is fairly wide, authors are requested to write an introduction that enables a wide audience to understand the context and motivation of the results in their article. The articles should present a major advancement either in theory or applications of dynamics; articles that are minor improvements of previously published results will not be considered.

High quality papers describing the application of the modern theory of dynamics to practical problems in other disciplines and reports of experiments or numerical simulations are also welcome, as long as they clearly illustrate important theoretical issues, or highlight deficiencies in the theoretical development of dynamical systems. Contributions of a purely theoretical nature are likewise encouraged, provided that their relevance to applications is clearly described. The journal is particularly keen to attract a number of shorter papers (up to about 5000 words or 8 pages) and these will be dealt with under an accelerated refereeing and publication procedure. The journal also publishes occasional review articles. In all cases, authors are reminded to pay particular attention to the accessibility of their paper to a broad interdisciplinary audience.

The current impact factor is 0.737.

Abstracting Information:

Instructions to Authors

1. The structure and organization of the Journal

The Journal will publish papers typically between 5000 and 8000 words. However, there is not necessarily an upper limit on length, and authors of longer papers are encouraged to contact the Editors with a synopsis before progressing further. Review articles or essays are generally commissioned by invitation of the Editors.

All research papers, review articles, and technical notes will be subject to peer review.

Contact the Editors:

2. Submitting a manuscript to Dynamical Systems An International Journal

2.1. General guidelines

Please read this Guide with care and attention: should you fail to follow it, your research paper may be delayed. Note especially the referencing conventions used by Dynamical Systems: An International Journal and the requirement for gender-, race-, and creed-inclusive language, and for the adherence to the Syst鑝e Internationale.

Dynamical Systems: An International Journal considers all manuscripts on condition they are the property (copyright) of the submitting author(s) and that copyright will be transferred to Dynamical Systems: An International Journal and Taylor & Francis Ltd if the manuscript is accepted.

Dynamical Systems: An International Journal considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Dynamical Systems An International Journal, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication, nor in press elsewhere. Authors who fail to adhere to this condition will be charged all costs which Dynamical Systems An International Journal incurs, and their manuscripts will not be published.

Opinions advanced in the papers published in Dynamical Systems: An International Journal are to be understood as individual expressions of their authors and not those of the editorial board or Taylor & Francis.

2.3 Abstracts

Structured abstracts are required for all manuscripts, and should be submitted as detailed below, following the title and author's name and address, preceding the main text. The abstract should summarize the setting, methodology and results obtained within the article in a form suitable for publication separately to the main text of the article.

Abstracts should not exceed 200 words.

2.4. Copyright permission

Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table, or extensive (more than fifty word) extract from the text, from a source which is copyrighted - or owned - by a party other than Taylor & Francis or the contributor.

This applies both to direct reproduction or 'derivative reproduction' - when the contributor has created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source.

It is essential that you adhere to convention regarding product names. Product manufacturers often require that product names are trademarked, even if the product name has become a commonplace term. For example, let us assume the Taylor & Francis product 'pre view' has been trademarked by Taylor & Francis. We should require you as author to print the name as pre view ? and state the following as a footnote:

This article includes a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark. Its inclusion does not imply it has acquired for legal purposes a n

2.5. Mathematics

It is recommended to prepare your manuscript whenever possible using a mathematical word processor such as LaTeX, AMSTex, TeX etc both to speed production and to remove any potential sources of confusion in the notation.

Special care should be taken with mathematics in manuscripts, especially subscripts and superscripts and differentiation between the letter 'ell' and the figure one, and the letter 'oh 'and the figure zero. In the unlikely event your keyboard does not have the characters you need, it is preferable to use longhand, in which case it is important to differentiate between capital and small letters, K, k and x and other similar groups of letters. Special symbols should be highlighted in the text and explained in the margin. In some cases it is helpful to supply annotated lists of symbols for the guidance of the sub-editor and the typesetter, and/or a 'Nomenclature' following the abstract.

For simple fractions in the text, the solidus / should be used instead of a horizontal line, care being taken to insert parentheses where necessary to avoid ambiguity, for example, I /(n-1). Exceptions are the proper fractions available as single type on a keyboard.

Full formulae or equations should be displayed, that is, written on a separate line. Horizontal lines are preferable to solidi.

The solidus is never used for units: ms-1 not m/s, but note electrons/s, counts/channel, etc.

Displayed equations referred to in the text should be numbered serially on the right hand side of the page. Short expressions not referred to by any number will usually be incorporated in the text, but are discouraged.
