Its first issue was published in April 1972, anticipating the establishment of the federally funded ESRD program. The journal continues to anticipate and mold debate in clinical practice. D&T also features industry news, the latest information on regulatory issues, and data from cutting-edge research in the field.

  • Renal transplantation
  • Vascular access
  • Adequacy
  • Water treatment
  • Renal disease management

Editorial Policies

Exclusive Publication. Articles are accepted for publication on condition that they are contributed solely to D&T.

Credits and Permissions. Authors should secure all necessary clearances and approvals prior to submission, including credits and permissions for all nonoriginal materials. This includes quotations, illustrations, and tables. All permissions must be given from both author and publisher of the original. No article will be accepted without all required permissions. Credit the source in a text or table footnote.

Financial Interests. Financial support received (e.g., unrestricted educational grants) for the development of a manuscript must be disclosed to the editors in the covering letter. All funding sources supporting the work should be cited. Authors must disclose commercial considerations, such as an equity interest, patent rights, or corporate affiliations, including consultantships, for any product or process mentioned in the submission. Rejection of the manuscript or retraction may occur if undisclosed financial interests are found after publication.

Preparation of Manuscripts

The main body of all manuscripts, and all tables included with your submissions must be provided in Microsoft Word format. Documents and figures submitted in PDF format will not be accepted.

Title: Titles should be short, specific and clear. They should not exceed 80 characters (including spaces). Do not use abbreviations in the title.

The title page of each manuscript should provide: (1) article title of 80 characters or fewer, (2) each author抯 name (include first name, middle initial, and last name), highest degree, institutional affiliation, address, and telecommunications numbers, (3) e-mail address of corresponding author, (4) a list of counts for references, figures, tables, and words for the title, abstract and text, (5) any necessary footnotes to these items, and (6) a running title not exceeding 30 characters (including spaces).

Abstract: Research Articles must include a structured abstract that includes all the following sections: Objective, Methods, Results and Discussion approximately 10-18 lines (up to 200 words). Abstracts for brief communications should be short; no more than 5-6 lines.

Acknowledgement: Information concerning sources of financial support and funding should be placed in the Acknowledgement section.

References: Wiley抯 journal styles are available in EndNote. Endnote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote抯 bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style. If you already use EndNote, you can download the reference style for this journal. For assistance using EndNote, visit www.endnote.com/support or contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com .

  • Type references double-spaced throughout. List up to four authors; if more than four, list three and "et al". Arrange in order of citation, and cite all references by number in the text, superscript and without brackets. Please check all references for errors of citation or attribution.
  • Use Index Medicus reference style, giving complete publication data.
  • Unpublished data (which includes articles submitted but not in press) and personal communications must be given in parentheses in the text, not as references.
Tables: Type tables double-spaced on pages separate from the text. Number pages consecutively with text and provide a table number and title for each. Hold length to one standard-sized manuscript page. Tables should be numbered in order of citation in the text. Data in tables should not duplicate material in the text or illustrations.

Figure Legends: Type double-spaced on pages separate from text and figures. Provide one legend for each figure, and number legends in sequence. Number legend pages consecutively with the text. For photomicrographs indicate the stain and u se an internal scale marker.

Figures: For the purposes of peer review, we request that authors supply JPEG or GIFF files to ensure rapid electronic transfer of your manuscript to reviewers. Do not submit your figures embedded in your Microsoft Word document. Figures provided in Microsoft PowerPoint or PDF files will not be accepted for review.

If your manuscript is accepted for publication, we will require that you submit figures in either TIFF or EPS format. All other file formats for figures are unacceptable for print purposes.

  • Photographs of recognizable persons should be accompanied by a signed release from the patient or legal guardian authorizing publication. Masking eyes to hide identity is not sufficient.
  • All print reproduction requires files for full color images to be in a CMYKcolor space.
  • All figures should be submitted, separate from text and figure legends, as TIPP or EPS files.
  • Resolution is 300 ppi for grayscale and color images and 1200 ppi for lie art at final size.
  • Figures with parts A, B, C, D, etc., should be formatted to one figure. Do not separate into multiple figures.

Editorial & Publishing Processes

Editing. D&T reserves the right to edit all reader contributions for clarity or length. Minor changes (punctuation, spelling, grammar, syntax) will be made at the discretion of the editorial staff. Substantive changes of any nature will be verified with the author prior to publication.

Peer Review. All clinical manuscripts are peer-reviewed. Receipt of manuscripts will be acknowledged soon after receipt, and every effort will be made to advise contributors of the status of their submissions within 60 days thereafter.

Proofs and Reprints. Proofs must be returned within 2 days of receipt; late return may cause a delay in publication of an article. Please check text, tables, legends and references carefully. To expedite publication, page proofs rather than galleys will be sent electronically to the author. An order form for reprints will be included with proofs.

Copyright

No article can be published unless accompanied by a signed copyright transfer agreement, which serves as a transfer of copyright from author to publisher. A copy of the agreement, executed and signed by the author, is now required with each manuscript submission. (If the article is a "work made for hire," the agreement must be signed by the employer.) A copyright transfer agreement (CTA) will be attached to the decision letter when a paper is accepted. You may also locate the CTA at http://www3.interscience .wiley.com/homepages/30728/nscta.pdf . Only original papers will be accepted and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. It is the author抯 responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce material that has appeared in another publication.
