About the journal
An international journal on monomer and macromolecular synthesis
Designed Monomers and Polymers provides a forum for the prompt publication of peer-reviewed, English-language papers on all areas of macromolecular design and application. Emphasis will be placed on the macromolecular preparations including the synthesis, characterization and application of monomers. The experimental part should be provided in such detail (including specific observations, precautionary notes, use of new materials, techniques, and their possible problems, etc.) that it could be reproduced by any researcher wishing to repeat the work. The subjects of macromolecular science, initiators, macroinitiators for macromolecular design, as well as the kinetics, mechanism and modeling aspects of polymerization, will be included too.
Designed Monomers and Polymers provides an interface between organic, and polymer chemistries and aims to bridge the gap between monomer synthesis and the design of new polymers. The subject of monomers may include old monomers but new methods of synthesis. Authors must show the evidence for polymerization (including polycondensation, sequential combination, oxidative coupling, radiation, plasma polymerization, etc.) for new monomers. The field of monomers encompasses functional prepolymers of various architectures such as hyperbranched polymers, telechelic polymers, macromonomers, or dendrimers. Articles on monomers have been scattered over a vast number of journals: there is no polymer journal that covers a specialized subject such as monomers, whereas monomers are the building blocks of polymers. Designed Monomers and Polymers seeks to redress the balance by providing an international forum for addressing the issue of monomers and the art and science of macromolecular
Instructions to Authors
All contributions will be evaluated by at least two independent referees. Submission of a manuscript implies that the work therein has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere in any medium. Authors are solely responsible for the factual accuracy of their papers. It is the responsibility of the principal author to secure requisite permission from his or her employer and all papers submitted are understood to have received due clearance(s) for publication.
Preparation Typescripts must be in English, typed with double line spacing, single-sided on 8.5'' 11'' or A4 sheets leaving at least 1'' margins on all sides, and should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page. The first page should contain only (1) the title, the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s), (2) a short title, (3) name, address, fax number and e-mail of the author to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent. An abstract of 50-250 words and 4-8 key words should follow the title page on a separate sheet. Headings and subheadings for different sections of the paper (e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion) should be clearly indicated. Detailed mathematical discussions should be placed in an appendix. Units of measurement, abbreviations and symbols should follow the International System of Units (SI). Equations and formulae should be typewritten whenever possible. Equations should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page. Special symbols should be identified in the margin.
Tables and figures Tables should be given short informative titles and should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals. Tables may be reproduced by photo-offset, i.e. directly from the typed manuscript. Figures in a form suitable for reproduction should be submitted separately from the text as original drawings in India ink, or as high contrast, unmounted photographs on glossy paper. Lettering on figures should be proportional to the size of the figure to ensure legibility after reduction. On the back of each figure should be indicated lightly in soft pencil: (1) the top of the figure by an arrow, (2) the author and figure number. All chemical structures should be supplied as artwork suitable for direct reproduction. All figures and tables should be cited consecutively in the text and a list of captions should be provided at the end of the paper.
References The references should be cited in the text in a sequential manner and the reference numbers should be in square brackets. References should be listed at the end of the paper in the reference section in the numerical order.
References to journals should be given in this order: Initials and last name(s) of author(s), standard abbreviated title of periodical (italicized)(according to the system co-sponsored by the American Chemical Society and listed in Bibliographical Guide for Editors and Authors), volume number (underlined), issue number, only if applicable, in parentheses, first relevant page, year of publication in parentheses, e.g.:
1. M.K. Mishra, Macromolecules, , 5228(1996)
References to an authored book, an edited book and a paper in an edited book should be listed according to the following style:
2. G.R. Newkome, C.N. Moorefield, F. Voegtle, Dendritic Molecules: Concepts, Syntheses, Perspectives, VCH Publisher, Germany (1996)
3. M.K. Mishra, O. Nuyken, S. Kobayashi, Y. Yagci and B. Sar (Eds), Macromolecular Engineering: Recent Advances, Plenum Press, New York (1995)
4. H. Ritter in: Functional Polymers, R. Arshady (Ed), pp. 103-113. American Chemical Society, Washington, DC (1996)
If a publication is in press, the reference should be made as complete as possible, e.g. by stating the name of the journal and adding `in press'.
Proofs Proofs will be sent to the designated author to check typesetting accuracy. Alterations to the original manuscript at this stage will result in considerable delay in publication and, therefore, are not accepted unless charged to the author. Proofs should be returned within two days of receipt.
Reprints Twenty-five reprints will be supplied free of charge for each article. Additional reprints may be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form mailed together with the proofs.
There are no page charges.
Short communications should be presented in the same style as a full paper.
Word-processor disks The publisher's production department can use your word-processor disks. If available, please send a copy of the disk with your final revised manuscript (together with two copies of the printout). This gives a substantial decrease in typesetting time and ensures that there are no re-keying errors in the article. Moreover, using word-processor disks helps us to shorten publication times. If you provide a disk, please follow these instructions:
1. Label the disk with the author's name; the word processor/computer used (e.g., IBM-PC, Macintosh); the name of the program (e.g., WordPerfect, TEX, MS-Word). If you have an editor's manuscript number, include it in the label;
2. Send the manuscript as three files; if possible keep the text, figure legends, and tables in separate files. File names must clearly indicate the content of each file;
3. Send separate disks if you submit more than one article at the time;
4. A hard copy printout of the manuscript that exactly matches the disk files must be supplied. Special characters and symbols which are not included in the printer used, should be left as blank spaces in the files and these should be correctly written in the printout in red;
5. Do not use footnotes; Do not justify the right-hand margin.
