About the journal

 Cover

The aim of Connective Tissue Research is to present original and significant research in all basic areas of connective tissue and matrix biology. The journal also provides topical reviews and, on occasion, the proceedings of conferences in areas of special interest at which original work is presented. The complexity of connective tissues requires that the journal support an interdisciplinary approach; we therefore present a variety of perspectives from different disciplines, including biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, immunology, structural biology, biophysics and biomechanics. The tissues of interest are bone, cartilage, dentin, skin, tooth and tendon, as well as the eyes, the vascular system, the kidneys and other connective tissue component-rich organs. The processes of growth, development, aging, tissue remodeling, wound healing, and biomineralization are all appropriate topics for discussion. It is our hope that this collection of varied but related presentations will inform, stimulate and broaden the outlooks of individual specialists interested in current connective tissue research.

Instructions to Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

Three copies of original full length manuscripts,as well as letters to the editor and other correspondence, should be submitted to:Arthur Veis,Editor-in-Chief, ConnectiveTissue Research,Northwestern University,Ward 13-100,303 E Chicago Ave,Chicago,IL 60611,U.S.A.Books for review should also be sent to this address and not to the publisher.

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors 鎶mes, file name, and software program.A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. If particular figures such as electron micrographs are crucial to interpretation, provide at least two good quality sets of prints for review purposes. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Papers are accepted only in English.Contributors from non-English speaking countries are encouraged to seek editorial help in preparing their manuscripts. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten,double-spaced,with margins of at least one inch on all sides.Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 35 character spaces, and up to five key words. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of 100-150 words.Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.

Minireviews

Proposals and manuscripts for minireviews should include a one page overview of the scope of the material to be reviewed illustrating its application to connective tissue research and a sample bibliography of five references. In general, reviews for Connective Tissue Research should have text of approximately four to six pages long, contain up to five figures and/or tables, and 60-80 references.Use of figures that pictorally illustrate important concepts in encouraged.Send proposals for review and manuscripts to:Theodore Oegema,J .,Minireview Editor,Dept.of Orthopedic Surgery,University of Minnesota,Mayo Memorial Building,Box 310 UMHC,420 Delaware St SE,Minneapolis,MN 55455,U.S.A.

Style

Metric units are preferred.Abbreviations and nomenclature should follow the recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and the International Union of Biochemistry. These rules are summarized in J.Biol.Chem.,269,780-785 (1994).

References

References and notes are indicated in the text by consecutive Arabic numbers. The full list should be collected and typed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Listed references should be complete in all details, including article titles in journals.Journal title abbreviations should conform to Chemical Abstract recommendations. Examples:

Journal Articles:
Gross,J.and Kirk,D.(1958).Heat precipitation of collagen from neutral salt solutions.J.Biol.Chem.,233,355-360.

Books:
Ramachandran,G.N.and Ramakrishnan,C.(1976).鎻梠lecular Structure.?In::Biochemistry of Collagen ,G.N.Ramanchandran and A.H.Reddi (eds.),pp.45-81. (Plenum,New York).

Figures

All figures should be numbered with consecutive Arabic numerals and be mentioned in the text.Figures submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.)should be clean originals or digital files. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author 鎶 name, and top edge indicated.Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS,TIFF,or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication;however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200.Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each.Good quality color prints should be provided,in their final size.Figures needing reduction or enlargement will he charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables

Tables should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files.A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included.Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.

Proofs

All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. Please ensure that a full postal address is given on the first page of the manuscript so that proofs arrive without delay. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proof read the article and it will be printed per his instruction.Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.

Early Electronic Offprints:

Corresponding authors can now receive their article by e-mail as a complete PDF. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of the journal can be purchased at the author's preferential rate of ?5.00/$25.00 per copy.

REPRINTS

Reprints may be ordered from Taylor &Francis.Use the reprint order form included with page proofs.
