About the journal
Welcome to the Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering website. The CJECE (ISSN-0840-
8688), issued quarterly, has been publishing high-quality refereed scientific papers in all areas of electrical and computer engineering since 1976.
Sponsored by IEEE Canada (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Canada) as a part of its role to provide scientific and professional activity for its members in Canada, the CJECE complements international journals and will be of particular interest to anyone involved in research and development activities in the field of electrical and computer engineering.
The CJECE is offered as a service to IEEE members, and subsidies allow the subscription fee to be kept to a nominal value.
We invite you to browse our website and subscribe to the CJECE. You can subscribe at any time and we will send you all issues for the year.
If you have any comments or suggestions, you are welcome to send them to us.

Instructions to Authors
Publishing Overview
The Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering accepts submissions from both Canadian and international authors.
The publication process begins when you submit a manuscript (not previously published and not simultaneously submitted elsewhere) to the CJECE editor or one of the associate editors. The editors will forward the paper to several anonymous, independent referees for review. The referees will recommend acceptance or rejection of your paper. They may also request revisions or clarifications.
If your paper is accepted, you will receive a Notice of Acceptance from the editor. You will also be asked to complete a Copyright Form
You will be asked to send the final version of your paper to the CJECE's production office. Your paper will be copy-edited and formatted, and you will receive page proofs (typically by e-mail in PDF format) for your approval.
To help cover publication costs, all CJECE authors are required to pay page charges of CDN$100 per page (for example, the charge for a five-page article would be CDN$500). Following publication you will receive 50 reprints of your paper. A Reprint Order Form will accompany your page proofs, and you will be invoiced upon publication of your paper. You will also receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which your paper appears. Top
Guidelines for Content
The CJECE publishes material in both English and French under three main headings:
(a) Technical papers of between 3,000 and 8,000 words concerned with original research in the field of electrical and computer engineering, current electrical and computer engineering practice, or the history of electrical and computer engineering relevant to the Canadian scene.
(b) Short papers directed to brief descriptions of new technical achievements, comments on the contents of previously published papers, or items of general interest to Canadian electrical engineers.
(c) Application articles related to novel realizations, or major system implementations. Top
Peer Review
Technical papers are subject to a review by anonymous, independent referees, as coordinated by the associate editors. Technical letters are referred to competent reviewers prior to acceptance by the editor, comments on previously published papers are referred to the author(s) of the paper prior to acceptance by the editor, and all letters to the editor are subject to final acceptance by the editor. How to Submit Your Initial Manuscript
Your initial submission to the editor or one of the associate editors should be in electronic format or in double-spaced typescript (four copies). Include copies of all figures and tables, along with clearly indicated captions.
Please provide an abstract of between 25 and 200 words with your manuscript. The abstract (and the title of your paper) should be supplied in both English and French if possible. The editor will arrange for the translation of abstracts and titles that are prepared in one language only.
You should also list the addresses and affiliations of all authors. Please indicate clearly the corresponding author, and include his or her e-mail address.
The CJECE co-editors are Dr. Witold Kinsner and Dr. Xavier Maldague:

How to Submit Your Final Manuscript
Once the final version of your paper has been accepted for publication, you will be asked to send a copy of your paper to the CJECE production office by mail or e-mail.
Production of the CJECE is handled by Mr. Mark Bachmann:
Mr. Mark Bachmann Bachmann Communications Inc. 132 Brighton Street, Unit 4 Waterloo, Ontario N2J 4S5, Canada Telephone: (519) 884-7794 Fax: (519) 884-7862 E-mail: markbach@golden.net
The package you send to Mr. Bachmann should consist of three components:
- A production copy of the paper including a title page, abstract, the body of your paper, appendices (if any) and references
- A reference copy of the paper
- Individual copies of each figure Top
(a) The Production Copy
The production copy is the copy used by CJECE production staff to prepare your paper for publication. The CJECE prepares papers for publication using the LaTeX document preparation system. Therefore we encourage you to submit the final version of your paper as a LaTeX file by e-mail or on disk (we accept 3.5" Macintosh or IBM floppy disks, Zip disks or CDs). You may e-mail us for a LaTeX template file and style file that will assist you in preparing your manuscript.
Alternatively, you may submit your paper in a common word processing format such as Microsoft Word. Note that we will probably rekey any math contained in the file. Note also that although you may include figures within the file, they will also have to be sent as individual graphics files. We cannot work with figures contained within a word processing file.
Please do not send production copies of your paper in PDF format. Likewise, please do not send files created using page layout applications such as Pagemaker, Quark XPress or Framemaker. We cannot work with such files. If you cannot supply a document in electronic format, you may supply a hard copy. Top
(b) The Reference Copy
We use the reference copy to check elements that may be unclear in the production copy. (For example, a linked equation may be missing in a Word file, or a generated reference number may not print as expected in a LaTeX file.) The reference copy may be either a PDF file or a hard copy containing the complete final text of the paper along with figures and tables. You may send it by mail, by e-mail or on disk (we accept 3.5" Macintosh or IBM floppy disks, Zip disks or CDs). Top
(c) Figures and Tables
We prepare the final version of your paper using the LaTeX document preparation system. The LaTeX text file "calls" the graphics files containing the figures for your paper. For that reason, we need you to supply each figure as a separate graphics file. Acceptable electronic formats for graphics files are Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), PostScript (PS), TIFF and JPEG. Graphics files can be sent by e-mail or on disk (we accept 3.5" Macintosh or IBM floppy disks, Zip disks or CDs).
If you cannot send an electronic version of your figures, send high-quality hard copies. For photographs, please provide original, glossy prints rather than a scanned hard copy or photocopy, since rescanning a scanned image always produces inferior output.
We will resize figures to fit across either one column (89 mm or 3.5" width) or two columns (184 mm or 7.25" width). Keep these final dimensions in mind when you create your artwork. Lines should be thick enough, and type should be large enough, so that they will remain visible and legible when scaled to their final size. A line thickness of one point is almost always clearly visible. Type sizes of between 9 and 12 points generally work quite well. We recommend that you use commonly available typefaces like Helvetica and Times Roman to label your figures.
Line-art drawings should have a resolution of at least 600 dots per inch (dpi) with 1 bit/pixel. Grayscale images (such as scanned photographs) should have a resolution of at least 220 lines per inch (lpi) with 8 bits/pixel. Note that the CJECE is printed in black only, and any colour graphics files that you supply will be reproduced in black and white.
Please don't place a frame around your figures (we will add one later), and please do not include the figure caption in your graphics file.
Finally, any tables you send will be set as text rather than being reproduced as figures. Therefore you don't need to be overly concerned about the appearance of your tables. Final formatting will be done by CJECE production staff. Top
CJECE Style
The CJECE is published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Canada (IEEE Canada), and follows IEEE style with some exceptions. For specific guidelines on style and format, see the CJECE Style Guide. Top
Return of Material
The CJECE does not return material (such as hard copies, drawings, and disks) supplied during the production process, with the exception of Zip disks. Top
