About the journal
The Canadian Journal of Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy is a bilingual journal that publishes original reports of a spectroscopic nature and/or on analytical sciences in either English or French in the form of papers, review articles, tutorial articles, tips or aid-type articles, and book reviews. Analytical sciences include: isotope analysis, separation sciences and technologies, agricultural sciences, electrochemical techniques and methods, environmental sciences and technologies, chemical speciation, forensic science, bioavailability and ecotoxicity of elements, pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, clinical analysis, material characterization, structural elucidation, geochemical analysis, nuclear and radiochemical sciences, and hyphenated analytical techniques. Both theoretical and experimental papers fall within the scope of the journal.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript
Articles may be submitted electronically: CJASS electronic submission
The corresponding author should include his/her e-mail address and fax number in the cover letter.
The manuscript should be typed double-spaced on one side of 8.5" x 11" (22 x 28 cm) paper leaving a 1.5" (4 cm) margin all around. The printer can process files from all of the common word processing programs.
Authors are encouraged to suggest reviewers, who may be used at the discretion of the editors. Every manuscript will indeed be reviewed by at least two referees. There are no page charges for papers. Reprints are available at a charge.
Title Page The title page should contain only the manuscript title, the authors' names, their affiliation, a short running title, and, for indexing purposes, five keywords or phrases. In a manuscript by several authors, the corresponding author's name should be marked by an asterisk, and the footnote "Author to whom correspondence should be addressed" should be placed at the bottom of the page.
Abstract The abstract should be not more than 200 words in length and, if possible, in both English and French. However, abstracts submitted in only one of the languages will be translated into the other. Since the abstract will probably be used in full by the various abstracting services throughout the world, it should be as self-contained and concise as possible.
References The references should be typed on a separate sheet immediately following the text and should be numbered in the order of their appearance in the text.
The recommended abbreviations for the titles of most journals are those followed by the publications of the American Chemical Society. Examples of the format to be used for journal and book references are as follows:
(a) Journals D.C. Gr間oire, Can. J. Anal. Sci. Spectrosc., 42, 1 (1997).
(b) Books R.A. Kellner, J.-M. Mermet, M. Otto and H.M. Widmer, Eds., "Analytical Chemistry", Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, Germany, 1998, p. 209.
Figures The figures should be clear and kept to a minimum, in a form suitable for reproduction by the printer, e.g., black line drawings on tracing or a good quality drawing paper or clear photographic prints. The preferable size of the figures is 8.5 x 11 in. (22 x 28 cm). The figures normally will be reduced to one column width 3-5/16 in. (8.4 cm) so the labelling on the figures must be of sufficient size that it will still be readable after reduction. Each figure must be numbered with an arabic numeral and clearly identified by the name(s) of the author(s) at the bottom of the page. The figure captions should be on a separate page immediately following the references. Unless a special request is made to the Editor, the originals of figures will not be returned.
Tables, Equations and Formulas The tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1,2,etc.) typed on separate sheets, and placed immediately after the list of figure captions. Each table should have an appropriate heading that explains the significance of the data without readers having to refer to the text. There should be no vertical rulings. The tables, equations and complicated formulas should be typed in the journal format and suitable for direct photographic reproduction.
Galley Proofs The authors of accepted manuscripts will be sent galley proofs for corrections. However, authors will be charged for excessive corrections and publication will most probably be delayed.
