About the journal

A biannual publication of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia. The Chemical Society of Ethiopia was founded in 1983. The aims of the Society are: (1) to develop and promote chemistry education and research, (2) to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas through professional publications and regular meetings, (3) to popularize chemistry especially in schools, (4) to enhance the participation and collaboration of professional chemists in matters pertaining to national policies in curriculum development and the training of chemists, (5) to establish close relationships among chemists and other professionals engaged in chemistry-related fields of activities so as to increase the role of chemistry in national development, (6) to promote the improvement of the qualifications of members, and (7) to establish and strengthen links with other societies, national and international, which pursue similar aims.

Full membership is open to all bona-fide chemists who wish to join the Society to pursue the above aims. Associate membership is also possible for students and other persons professionally engaged in fields related to chemistry. Paid-up members are entitled to receive the Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia on a free-of-charge basis. For details contact: The Secretary, The Chemical Society of Ethiopia, PO Box 32934, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Instructions to Authors

2. Types of contributions. The Bulletin publishes:

2.1. Full papers reporting the results of original research. The materials should not have been published elsewhere, nor should they be sent elsewhere for publication simultaneously.

2.2. Short communications containing the results of a limited investigation. These should be properly documented by references to the literature and by description of experimental procedures.

2.3. Reviews presenting thorough documentation on subjects of active and current interest in chemical sciences. Reviews are usually by invitation. However authors may submit outlines and upon notification of interest by the Editorial Board turn in complete manuscripts.

2.4. Feature Articles in Chemical Education, Chemistry and Society, etc.

3. The Manuscript.

3.1. All manuscripts must be written in English

3.2. Organization of Manuscript. It is preferred to have the manuscript organized under the following headings: (a) TITLE, Author(s), Address(es) and ABSTRACT. Abstracts should not exceed 200 words. (b) INTRODUCTION: stating the purpose of the investigation and relating the manuscript to similar research in the literature. This is to be followed by (c) EXPERIMENTAL and (d) RESULTS AND DISCUSSION or vice-versa. (e) ACKNOWLEDGEMENT(S) and (f) REFERENCES: reference numbers in the text should appear sequentially in square brackets [ ] and not as super- or sub-scripts. Each reference should be given a separate reference number. Please note the following examples: JOURNAL: Glerup, J.; Goodson, P.A.; Hodgson, D.J.; Michelsen, K.; Rychlewska, U.; Weihe, H. Bull. Chem. Soc. Ethiop. 2000, 14, 129. BOOK: Silverstein, R.M.; Bassler, G.C.; Morrill, T.C. Spectroscopic Identification of Organic Compounds, 4th ed., Wiley: New York; 1995; p 178. NOTE: Do not use et al. to indicate more than one or two authors. Notations like ibid, loc. cit. etc. should be avoided.

3.3. Formulas, Figures and Tables should be drawn or typed on good quality paper using black waterproof ink with special and artistic care, numbered and attached at the end of the manuscript. They may be drawn in 1.5 times the size finally required. The size of lettering on Figures should ensure that reductions of ca 64% would still result in easily readable sizes. Legends should be typed on separate sheet of paper. The approximate position of Formulas, Figures and Tables should be indicated in the text. Formulas and Figures should be prepared so as to allow direct camera ready processing.

3.4. Submission of Manuscript. The true original and 2 copies typed with double spacing (unfolded) (including copy of any manuscript "In press" that is referred to in the manuscript) should be sent to: The Editor-in-Chief, Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia, P.O. Box 32934, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
