Instructions to Authors Online submission All manuscripts must be submitted electronically to the journal抯 manuscript submission site at: http://editorialmanager.com/brc/ Manuscript submission policies Manuscripts which do not follow the mandatory guidelines below will be returned to the authors for correction! Manuscripts must be written in English. Manuscripts should not exceed 8 printed pages (24 typewritten pages of 32 lines each) plus 8 figures. Exceptions to this rule can be made only with the agreement of the Chief editor. Manuscripts submitted for publication must contain a statement that all human studies have been reviewed by the appropriate ethics commitee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted. Reports of animal experiments must state that the 憫Principle of laboratory animal care拻 (NIH publication No. 86--23, revised 1985) were followed, as well as specific national laws (e.g. the current version of the German Law on the Protection of Animals) where applicable. The Chief Editor reserves the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the abovementioned requirements. The authors will be held responsible for false statements or for failure to fulfil the above-mentioned requirements. Manuscripts preparation Please consult also the journal抯 home page at www.brc.springer.de for detailed technical Instructions. Title page: The first page of the manuscript must include: 1. Full title of the article, 2. Column title (running title of the article for the page heading), 3. All author names, 4. All author affiliations, 5. Full contact information for the corresponding author. Abstract and Key words: An abstract containing the essential points must accompany each article. It should be written to present a condensed extract of the article and be suitable for international documentation systems. An inadequate abstract delays the processing of the manuscript. Please provide up to 5 key words for a register and for documentation purposes below the abstract. Figures and Tables: Figures must be numbered with Arabic numerals and kept separate from the text. The legends must appear on a separate page. The desired insertion places of figures and tables are to be marked clearly in the text. The tables must be numbered independent of the figures with Arabic numerals, with headings, and kept separate from the text. Electronic files Please observe our technical instructions (which are available on our website and in certain issues of the journal) for the composition of your manuscript files. References List only references which are cited in the manuscript. The reference list at the end of the manuscript must be arranged alphabetically by the first author抯 name and numbered sequentially. List all authors, use standard abbreviations for journal names, and give full range page numbers. In the manuscript text cited references are indicated by the corresponding reference number in parentheses. Examples for the required reference format are given below. Journal articles: Heusch G, Bu╟hert A, Feldhaus S, Schulz R (2006) No loss of cardioprotection by postconditioning in connexin 43-deficient mice. Basic Res Cardiol 101:354--356 Articles in books: Schulz R, Frehen D, Heusch G (1991) No impairment of sympathetic neurotransmission in stunned myocardium. In: Heusch G, Ross J Jr (Eds) Adrenergic mechanisms in myocardial ischemia. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York Tokyo: pp 267--280 Books: Heusch G, Ross J Jr. (1990) Adrenergic mechanisms in myocardial ischemia. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York Tokyo Figures If the author wants to re-use previously published material he is responsible to provide a permission by the copyright-holder. Double presentation of the same information in tables and figures should be avoided. Short, clear legends make additional description in the text unnecessary. The author is responsible for obtaining either from the patient or his legal representative permission for the reproduction of figures in which a patient can be recognized. Color illustrations will be accepted on the discretion of the editors/the publisher. Preparation of electronic files For general advice on the delivery of text and image files please refer to the technical instructions on the journal抯 home page at www.brc.springer.de Please do not use the PDF format for uploading files. Offprints Offprints may be ordered at cost price when the page proofs are returned. Steinkopff will supply the corresponding author with one complementary copy of the relevant issue.
