About the journal

The journal was founded in 1936, being the first special journal in the area of control. Now the scope of the journal is entirely control theory problems and applications. The journal publishes surveys, original papers, and short communications, in the field of control theory (deterministic, stochastic, adaptive, robust, formulations) and its applications (computer control, components and instruments, process control, social and economy control, etc.).

Instructions to Authors

Themes

The journal publishes articles and notes containing original results on theoretical and applied control roblems in the following areas:

(1) deterministic systems,
(2) stochastic systems,
(3) queueing systems,
(4) discrete systems,
(5) adaptive and robust systems,
(6) developing systems,
(7) control in biological systems and medicine,
(8) modeling of behavior and intelligence,
(9) automata,
(10) technical diagnostics,
(11) automatic control systems,
(12) com uting techniques in control,
(13) technical tools in control,
(14) computer-aided production control systems, and
(15) reliability.

The journal also ublishes reviews on the state-of-the-art of major roblems, messages on the most interesting scientific conferences, materials of scientific discussions, and reviews of new books

Structure of an article

1. Every article must begin with a short introduction to the topic, its brief history, and an outline as to where and when the topic is encountered in control roblems. If the topic is concerned with a mathematical model, an explanation must be given as to how the model is implied in the formulation of the problem.
2. The main body of the article must include a mathematical formulation of the problem, the assertions and results obtained in the article must be explained, and all necessary proofs must be given in an appendix. Special terms and definitions in the main text (but not in the Appendix) must be explained. Abbreviations and acronyms, except for the most common ones, must be avoided. Special terminology ertaining to the field to which the article is devoted must be used.
3. The concluding part of the article (conclusions) must summarize the results and, whenever possible, give an example illustrating the effectiveness and application of methods, and trends.
4. The article must be subdivided into sections with titles reflecting the contents. Sections must be numbered.

An abstract containing up to 100 words must summarize the contents of the article to a wide circle of readers. Abstract is printed at the beginning of the article as a separate double-s aced section.

Typewritten Manuscript. Two copies of the manuscript typewritten on single side of A4 paper, double spaced, with 4 cm left margin and distinct black typeface impression must be submitted. The size of the article must not exceed 16 ages (the size of a note must be not more than 6 ages), including a endix, list of references, tables, and legends to figures. Pages must be numbered.

Formulas must be written legibly in black large letters. Clear distinction must be made between upper-and lower-case letters (P, p; K, k; M, m; X, x; V, v; Y, y) and characters similar in shape ( I, J; e; l; i, and j). Superscripts and subscripts must be written strictly above and below the baseline. In-line formulas must be written such that interline space is not increased, for example a/b, lim y as x -> 0, sup for x X; exp (x/y), and integral of f (x) with respect to x [a,b]. Numbers of formulas must be enclosed within arentheses on the left. If formula numbers exceed 20, then double numeration can be used (the first figure indicates the number of section, whereas the second figure denotes the number of the formula within the section, for example, (3.2) means formula two of section three). Formulas that are not referenced in the main body of the text or ap endix must be not numbered.
Greek letters must be underlined in red and vectors in blue. Black pencil must be used to mark superscripts, subscripts, exponential powers, uppercase letters ( ), lowercase letters (), and zeros ( ).

Tables. Titles of rows and columns in a table and tables must be short without any abbreviations. The location of tables in the text must be shown on the left margin.

Figures. Not more than six figures must be submitted in two copies on separate pages, each showing the number of the figure and name of the author. All lengthy inscriptions in figures must be replaced by numbers or letters and their explanations must be given in captions to figures or in the text. The location of figures in the text must be indicated on the left margin.

Photographs must be submitted in two copies on white glossy photopaper. Images must have good consrast with distinct boundaries. There must not be any captions, insscriptions, etc., on one copy of the photograph.

List of references must be compiled according to the rules adopted for the journal (see examples). Works in the list of references must be number in order of their occurrence in the main body of the article. The list of references can be submitted on floppy diskettes.

For the sake of convenience of editing, articles repared with a computer text editor must be typed double-spaced with 12 or 14 pt font.

Supplementary matter. Every article must be accompanied with two copies of an abstract and legends to figures. Every article must be signed by all authors of the article, contain full information about authors (first name, patronymic name, last name, affiliation, status, degree, title, telephone numbers (home and office), postal address, and e-mail address (if any)). The most suitable area (from the list given at the beginning of the Instructions) of the article must indicated.
Since a camera-ready copy of journal volume is repared with a computer, authors are earnestly requested to submit two copies of articles on a (3.5") floppy in LATEX-e along with paper copies. Telephone (home and office) and e-mail address (if any) must be typed at the end of the file of the article and commented out.
Text must not be right flushed and words not hyphenated to carry across lines. A single empty line must be used to separate paragraphs.
Two copies of the file of an article (in two different folders or with different file names) must be provided on a diskette. The diskette must not contain any other files.
Use only English characters in the names of files.
Prior to submitting to the Editorial office, check whether the article conforms to our instructions.

Revision of an article. If an article is returned to the author for revision, the date of receipt of the article will be changed and, consequently, the date of publication will also be postponed. If the author radically alters the article, a copy of the original version must also be returned along with the revised version.

Articles accepted for publication. A copy of the manuscript along with reviewer’s remark will be forwarded to the author. The copy that is revised and corrected by the author is taken to be the final manuscript and must be confirmed and signed by the author “for print.” In case the author makes radical changes in the edited text, the article will be not be recommended for publications. A copy of the proof-sheet will not be mailed to the author.
Reasons for rejection of an article for publication will not disclosed and the manuscript of the article will not be returned to the author.

The Editorial Board hopes that articles will be submitted in full conformity with the Instructions to Authors.
