Instructions to Authors
Submitting Cover Images
If you don't have a cover image, simply send an e-mail to mag-images@amazon.com with "Need Cover Image" in the subject line. Within one to three days, you'll receive an e-mail inviting you to become a Seller Central user for Magazine Publishers. Seller Central is the Web site management system we use to manage our Web content. After you've logged into the system, you'll be able to make changes to our content using Seller Central.
Submitting Descriptions
- Record your product's ASIN.
- Write a detailed product description.
- Submit the ASIN and description.
Recording the Product ASIN
To identify the product description and the cover image with a proper filename, you must use the product's Amazon Standard Identification Number, or ASIN, which is a 10-character code.
When we receive data from our periodical suppliers, the products are usually identified with ISSNs (International Standard Serial Numbers) or proprietary codes. We convert these codes to unique ASINs. Please note: if your product is sold with more than one subscription duration, each duration has its own ASIN. In such cases, you must supply a description for each ASIN. To record the ASIN:
- Find all product detail pages for your magazines or periodicals.
- Look in the Product Details section of the product detail pages.
- Record the 10-character code listed next to the ASIN heading.
Writing a Product Description
Magazine and periodical descriptions can be up to 1,000 words, and we recommend that you use as much space as you need to describe your product. Be sure to include the following information:
- The product's intended audience
- How often the product is published
- Topics covered
- Critical acclaim
- Credential of the writers or editors, if appropriate
Format your description using the following HTML tags:
- Paragraph breaks:
- Line breaks:
- Bold text:
- Italics:
- Bulleted elements in lists:
Please note that we do not edit publisher descriptions; we simply accept them or reject them.
Save your description as a text file (ASCII or Windows, also known as ISO-8859-1). If you use the ISO-8859-1 (Windows) character set, you can include Western European diacritics, such as umlauts, in your file. Our system accepts these characters, and they display correctly on most computers in North America, Latin America, and Europe.
The interior of the file must be formatted as follows:
ASIN: (your product's 10-digit ASIN)
PRIORITY: 7305
SOURCE: From the Publisher
REVIEW: Text with HTML embedded
END
If you are sending a single description, save the file as (10-digit ASIN).txt. If you are sending multiple descriptions in the same file, save the file as (publisher name).txt.
Submiting the ASIN and Description
For your descriptions, attach the file to an e-mail and send it to mag-descriptions@amazon.com.
Please note that you will not receive any feedback from Amazon.com about your submissions. If the material meets our specifications, it will appear online within approximately three weeks. If the material does not appear by that time, please review these instructions and consider resubmitting your material.
