About the journal
The Archives of Histology and Cytology provides prompt publication in English of works on the histology and histochemistry of man and animals. The articles published are generally restricted to studies on vertebrates but investigations using invertebrates may be accepted when the ntention and results of the study are common or related to the interests of vertebrate researchers. Pathological studies may be accepted, if the observations and interpretations are considered valuable for enlarging knowledge of the normal features of the cells or tissues concerned. Besides reports of original studies, reviews giving evaluations and critical interpretations of recent studies and theories will also be published.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts, one original and two copies, should be sent to one of the Editors:
Prof. Yasuo UCHIYAMA Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine 2-2 Yamadaoka, Suita, Osaka, 565-0871, Japan Tel: +81-6-6879-3120 Fax: +81-6-6879-3129 E-mail: uchiyama@anat1.med.osaka-u.ac.jp |
Prof. Tatsuo USHIKI Division of Microscopic Anatomy and Bio-imaging Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences 1 Asahimati-dori, Niigata 951-8510, Japan Tel: +81-25-227-2058 Fax: +81-25-224-1767 E-mail: t-ushiki@med.niigata-u.ac.jp |
Submission of a paper to the Archives must be based on the tacit assurance that no similar paper, except for a preliminary report, has been or will be submitted for publication elsewhere.
Categories of Manuscripts Reviews, usually not exceeding 35 printed pages, are mostly written by invitation. Uninvited articles, however, are also considered for publication. In this case, the author(s) should contact the Editor before preparing the manuscript. Full original papers usually cover from 6 to 20 printed pages. Longer papers may be accepted only when there are compelling reasons. Short papers not exceeding 6 pages when printed may be published more promptly than the articles of other categories.
Style of Manuscripts Manuscripts must be typewritten in double space. Manuscripts of all the three categories should contain an English summary and a list of literature cited in the text. References to the literature should be cited in the text as: SMITH (1980) reported that . . . ; (SMITH, 1980, 1982); (SMITH and TANAKA, 1980); (SMITH et al., 1980, 198la). Suffixes a, b, etc. should be used following the year to distinguish two or more papers by the same author(s) published in the same year. Literature citations must be listed alphabetically according to the surname of the author. The citations must include: author(s), title of article or book, journal name, volume, first and last page, year of publication, publisher and city (for books). Reference Examples Figures, including graphs, should be numbered in order of mention in the text. Figures, when printed, will be smaller than 16.6 x 21.6 cm; space for the legend beneath each figure must be taken into account. Clean lettering and labeling on the figures are desired. The figures must be mounted on thinner bond paper, not on cardboard. This is because the figures must be closely adhered to a cylinder to then be scanned for plate making.
Charges to Authors The authors are requested to cover a part of the printing cost. For papers submitted from Japan, the authors are charged \5,000 for each printed page for the text (incl. reference list and tables) and \7,000 for each page area for figures (halftones and line drawings). For papers sent from overseas, US$22.- per page for text and US$30.- per page for illustrations are charged to the authors. The authors are requested to pay for color printing; the cost for a half page (16.6x 12.0 cm) is about \20,000 (US$150.-). The authors receive 40 reprints free of charge. The charge for reprints exceeding this number is \28 and 25c per page of each copy for domestic and overseas papers, respectively.
