About the journal

The ANZIAM JOURNAL
Formerly
The Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society
Series B - Applied Mathematics

The ANZIAM Journal is now available in both print and electronic forms. Electronic assess to the full papers requires that your institution takes out a subscription to this version of the Journal. Electronic access to the table of contents and the abstracts of papers is available without subscription.
The ANZIAM Journal also publishes a fully refereed, rapid publication Electronic Supplement. Access to the full articles in the Electronic Supplement is presently free.

As part of our trial of electronic publishing, on-line versions of a number of pre-2000 issues were produced. Access to this material is unrestricted.

Propspective authors should consult the information for authors page, especially to find out about the advantages of using the Electronic Supplement.

The Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society began publication in 1959, and from 1975 appeared in two series, Series A (Pure Mathematics and Statistics) and Series B (Applied Mathematics). Series B is now The ANZIAM Journal and is published in volumes comprising four quarterly parts.

There is also a fifth (electronic) part, The Supplement, designed for rapid publication.

All five parts are refereed. All accepted papers have the option of publication in the electronic part.

It is the editorial policy of The ANZIAM Journal to consider papers in any field of applied mathematics and related mathematical sciences. Novel applications of mathematics in real situations are especially welcomed. All papers should include some indication of applicability, and an introduction that can be understood by non-specialist readers from the whole applied mathematical community.

Instructions to Authors

Preparation of manuscripts
Authors of articles submitted for publication in The ANZIAM Journal are asked to ensure that their manuscripts are in a form suitable for sending to the printer. The Editors reserve the right to return poorly presented material to authors for revision.
The authors of any accepted papers may elect to speed up publication by having their papers appear only in the Electronic Supplement to the ANZIAM Journal. The fastest route to publication is to submit the manuscript specifically for publication in the Supplement. In order to minimize the time that it takes such a paper to appear, there are additional instructions for manuscripts submitted to the Electronic Editor.

1. Submission
This journal is typeset in LaTeX. It will speed up processing of accepted papers if an electronic version of the manuscript, preferably TeX-based, is available. Click here to download the ANZIAM Journal style files (anziam.zip, 18Kb). However, such a file need not be sent with the submitted paper, but will be requested by the Editor if the paper is accepted. The author should submit four copies to the Editor or an appropriate Associate Editor.
2. Abstract
An abstract not exceeding 250 words should be included in the manuscript.
3. Style
The manuscript should conform to the following rules. In case of any doubt, authors are advised to refer to previous papers in the Journal.
Main headings should be numbered, centred and shown thus:
2. Preliminary results

The titles Lemma, Theorem, Proof, Corollary, Remark, Definition etc. should be left-justified and numbered consecutively with arabic numerals, for example:
Lemma 1. The content of the lemma, theorem etc. should follow, as here.
Manuscripts should be typed, on high quality A4 or quarto bond paper, one side only with at least double spacing, and with a margin of at least 4cm all around. If the title is long, supply also a shortened form of the title not exceeding 40 characters, including spaces. If acknowledgements of support and assistance are made, these should be given at the end of the article. Footnotes should be avoided. The address should be shown under the author's name, including e-mail address if available.
4. Equations
Equations should be typed wherever possible, and punctuated to conform to their place in the syntax of the sentence. Equation numbers should be shown on the right in round brackets.
5. References
The reference list should be in Alphabetical Order by name of first author, preceded by a reference number in square brackets. These references should be cited in the text by giving the appropriate number in square brackets. The following layout for books, journal articles, theses, articles in books, and conference proceedings respectively, must be followed.
[1] M. Abramowitz and I. A. Stegun (eds), Handbook of mathematical functions (Dover, New York, 1970).
[2] S. N. Biswas and T. S. Santhanam, "Coherent states of para-Bose oscillators", J. Austral. Math. Soc. Ser. B 22 (1980) 210-217.

6. Tables
Each should be typed on a separate sheet with a centred heading Table 1 (or 2, 3, etc.), followed by a caption. The location should be shown in the text, for example:
Table 1 near here
7. Figures
Each figure should have a caption beginning: Figure 1 (or 2, 3, etc.). A list of these captions should be provided on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Location of figures in the text should be shown, for example
Figure 1 near here
Authors should provide diagrams drawn to professional standards in the form of encapsulated Postscript files. Other forms of diagrams drawn to professional standard may be acceptable, however this may also necessitate a payment from the author(s) to cover additional cost involved in processing them.
