This journal publishes papers on the ecology of freshwater systems, ranging from studies of aquatic organisms, physical and chemical works which relate to the biological environment, to ecological applications and frameworks for water management directives.
The aim of the journal is to promote rapid publication of original research, review papers, and short notes which lead to conceptual generalisations in the field of Limnology. Submitted manuscripts are peer-reviewed within 4-6 weeks. Accepted papers are printed within 3 months after acceptance by the Editorial staff.

Instructions to Authors
Information for Contributors
Authors should refer to the Guide for the preparation of scientific papers for publication (UNESCO 1983 PGI. 83/WS/10) and/or to previous issues of the journal. Manuscripts must be written in English, should be double spaced throughout, and typed only on one side of the paper. Scientific names of species and genera should be in italics. The first time a species?name is used in the text, the name of its author should be included. Please avoid right margin justification and hyphenation. The manuscript should be organised as follows :
The first page should contain only the title, the author抯 names, their address, fax and e-mail.
Page two contains the abstract (no more than 300 words) and up to five keywords useful for indexing.
Begin the introduction on page three.

References
References in the text must include the name of author followed by the year of publication. Examples are given hereafter : (Smith 2002), According to Smith (2002)? (Smith & Wesson 2002), (Smith 2002, Wesson 2002), (Smith et al. 2002). Reference list : the names of journals should be abbreviated according to the World list of scientific periodicals and italicised.

Tables and Figures
Each table should by typed on a separate page and be suitable for direct reproduction. Horizontal lines should appear above and below the headings and at the bottom of the columns. Extra space can be used to separate the columns but vertical lines must never be drawn. The layout of the tables should allow them to be printed over the width of one (no more than 52 characters - including spaces - per line) or two columns.
Figure presentation should allow reduction to the size of one column (7.5 cm) or two columns (15 cm). Letters and numbers should be of sufficient size that when reduced for publication they will be at least 1.5 mm high. The name of the author and the number of the figure (in Arabic numbers) should be written in the margin in blue pencil. The legends of the figures should be typed on a separate sheet headed "Figure legends".
Units : use SI Units.
Manuscripts must be submitted as a single pdf file, send to the Editor-in-Chief, or to an associated editor. Manuscripts will be reviewed by two referees. Authors will generally be notified of acceptance, rejection, or need for revision within 4-6 weeks.
Proofs will be sent to the authors for correction of type-setting errors only. Any other modification of the text will be at the author's expense. Reprints will be charged to the authors.
