About the journal

 Aerospace Science and Technology

The merger of La Recherche Aérospatiale and ZFW (Zeitschrift für Flugwissenschaften und Weltraumforschung), both leading journals in France and Germany, gave birth to Aerospace Science and Technology. Published by a bi–national editorial team under the auspices of the national research establishments ONERA and DLR in cooperation with the DGLR. In 1999, four other European research establishments have joined ONERA and DLR/DGLR within AST: CIRA (Italy), INTA (Spain), NLR (The Netherlands) and FOI (Sweden), giving the journal a dimension truly representative of the weight of European countries within the aerospace research community. Aerospace Science and Technology publishes articles of outstanding scientific quality. Each article is reviewed by two referees. The journal welcomes papers from a wide range of countries. This journal publishes original papers and review articles related to all fields of aerospace research, from fundamental research to industrial applications for the design and the manufacture of aircraft, helicopters, missiles, launchers and satellites.
Main scientific topics are related to:
• Fluid dynamics
• Energetics and propulsion
• Flight mechanics
• Materials and structures
• Guidance and control
• Noise
• Sensor technology
• Automatic systems
• Data processing and transmission

Manuscript Preparation:

General:
Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Original manuscripts are discarded one month after publication unless the Publisher is asked to return original material after use. An electronic copy of the manuscript on disk should accompany the final accepted version.
Back to contents list

Structure:
Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Title and Abstract in the language of the author if requested, Keywords (in both languages if applicable), Main text, Acknowledgements, Appendix, References. Tables and figures, with their captions, should not appear in the text, but be placed together on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript. (Do not import figures into the text - see Illustrations.) Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article and do not include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title or otherwise.
Back to the contents list

Text Layout:
Print the entire manuscript on one side of the paper only, using double spacing and wide (3.5 cm) margins. Ensure that each new paragraph is clearly indicated. Present tables and figure legends on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. If possible, consult a recent issue of the journal to become familiar with layout and conventions. Number all pages consecutively, use 12 or 10 pt font size and standard fonts.

Corresponding author:
Clearly indicate who is willing to handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that telephone and fax numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. Please consult a recent journal paper for style if possible.

Abstract:
A self-contained abstract outlining in a single paragraph the aims, scope and conclusions of the paper must be supplied.
Back to the contents list

Keywords:
Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of five keywords (in both English and the author's language if applicable). Be sparing with abbreviations: only abbreviations firmly established in the field may be eligible.
Back to the contents list

Symbols and unit:
Only ISO symbols, always written in italic, should be used for the various parameters. SI units should be used throughout, and should always be written in roman and separated from the numerical value by a space (whatever the language). The  in g or m is always in roman. The symbol for litre is L and that for minute is min. For temperatures, please note the use of C and F but K. As the Ångströ"m (1 Å = 10-10 m) is not an SI unit, it should be replaced by the nanometre (1 nm = 10-9 m) or by the picometre (1 pm = 10-12 m): 1 Å = 0.1 nm = 100 pm. Multiple units should be written with negative superscripts (for example, 25 mguL-1us-1).
The list of notations should appear just before the first paragraph of full text.

Equations and numbers:
Equations should be carefully typed with attention paid to exponents and subscripts. Those that are referred to in the text [in the form: equation (1), for example] should be numbered using Arabic numerals, in brackets, on the right-hand margin. Punctuation should not be used at the end of an equation. Particular care should be taken to distinguish between the number zero (0) and the letter O; the number one (1) and the letter l, the Roman letter v and the Greek letter nu (n). The decimal logarithm should be written "log" and the natural log "ln". The abbreviation of the exponential function is a roman e (for example, ex) or exp (for example, exp (u2 + n)). In expressions of the type dxdt, the letter d (derivative function) is always written in roman, whereas the physical parameter (x or t) is always in italics. Numbers are written in numerals when they are followed by units, these being represented by their SI symbols (10 % but a few percent). In numerals, each group of three letters should be separated by a space (except for dates and postal codes).

References:

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.
Example: "..... as demonstrated [3,6]. Barnaby and Jones [8] obtained a different result ...."

List: The list of references is arranged alphabetically and then numbered (numbers in square brackets).
Examples:
Reference to a journal publication:
[1] J. van der Geer, J.A.J. Hanraads, R.A. Lupton, The art of writing a scientific article, J. Sci. Commun. 163 (2000) 51-59.
Reference to a book:
[2] W. Strunk Jr., E.B. White, The Elements of Style, third ed., Macmillan, New York, 1979.
Reference to a chapter in an edited book:
[3] G.R. Mettam, L.B. Adams, How to prepare an electronic version of your article, in: B.S. Jones, R.Z. Smith (Eds.), Introduction to the Electronic Age, E-Publishing Inc., New York, 1999, pp. 281-304.

FREE ONLINE COLOUR
If, together with your accepted article, you submit usable colour figures then Elsevier will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in colour on the web (e.g., ScienceDirect and other sites) regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version.

Tables:
Tables should be numbered consecutively and given suitable caption and each table printed on a separate sheet. No vertical rules should be used. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript (for example, in graphs). Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters.

Supplying final accepted text on disk:
An electronic version of the text should be submitted together with the final hardcopy of the manuscript to the accepting editor. The electronic version must match the hardcopy exactly. We accept most wordprocessing formats, but RTF or LaTeX is preferred. Always keep a backup copy of the electronic file for reference and safety. Label disk with your name, journal title, and software used. Save your files using the default extension of the program used. Electronic files can be stored on 3.5 inch diskette, ZIP-disk or CD (either MS-DOS or Macintosh), or e-mailed directly to the editor.
