Acta Radiologica is published by the Scandinavian Society of Radiology, an association of the radiological societies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It aims for the prompt publication of original research articles on diagnostic and interventional radiology, clinical radiology, experimental investigations in animals, and all other research related to imaging procedures. All radiological specialities and technical utilities are included, as well as physiology and physics related to imaging, including ultrasonography, computed tomography, radionuclide and magnetic resonance imaging.

Acta Radiologica provides a unique international information source for radiologists. Contributions are mainly drawn from Northern European institutions, but high quality research from all parts of the world is regularly included. A highly qualified editorial board in collaboration with specialist referees scrutinise every manuscript.

In addition to original papers, Acta Radiologica also publishes invited review articles, short communications, technical and instrumental notes and abstracts of theses from Northern European countries. Case reports are published only when of specific scientific or clinical importance. Reviews of books and announcements of national and international conferences are regular features.

Supplements are printed separately and supplied free of charge to the subscribers. Extra copies may be ordered from the publisher.

Instructions to Authors

Please submit all manuscripts to:
ACTA RADIOLOGICA
Uppsala Science Park
S-751 83 Uppsala
Sweden
Tel. +46-1850-1280
Fax +46-1850-1281

ACTA RADIOLOGICA publishes articles on diagnostic and interventional procedures in radiology based on all medical imaging techniques. We also welcome work in physiology and physics when related to radiology. Manuscripts dealing with full-length reports, short reports or correspondence will be accepted for consideration. Extensive articles may be published as Supplements, for which special conditions apply.

Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not being considered for publication elsewhere and has been read and approved by all the authors. The submission of the manuscript by the authors means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to Acta Radiologica if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The work shall not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of Acta Radiologica. The articles published in this journal are protected by copyright, which covers translation rights and the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute all of the articles printed in the journal. No material published in the journal may be stored on microfilm or videocassettes or in electronic databases and the like or reproduced photographically without the prior written permission of Acta Radiologica.

Decisions on publication are based on the opinions of at least two reviewers (whose names will not be revealed to the authors). The manuscripts are subject to editorial revision. The right is reserved to introduce such changes as may be necessary to make contributions conform to editorial standards. The journal does not hold itself responsible for opinions or statements expressed by the authors.

Electronic Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts can be submitted to and reviewed by Acta Radiologica entirely electronically (no hard copies are necessary until the manuscript is accepted).  Electronic manuscripts can be submitted as a PDF file (both text and figures). PDF files can be created using Adobe Acrobat.  If the file is too large to send by e-mail the file size can be reduced using Adobe distiller.  Alternatively, the text can be submitted as a Word document and the figures submitted as a JPEG, GIF, or TIF files (figures in Power Point are not suitable).  Please send the manuscript to the editorial office either by e-mail (anita.gunnarsson@radiol.uu.se  ) or FTP (contact the editorial office to receive directions to access the Acta Radiologica FTP site). Manuscripts should clearly state the corresponding author's full name, e-mail address and fax number.

Submission of Manuscripts by Hard copy:
When submitting a manuscript by hard copy, please send 3 copies of the manuscript and figures to the editorial office at:

ACTA RADIOLOGICA
Uppsala Science Park

Sweden
Tel. +46 18 50 12 80
Fax +46 18 50 12 81

Only manuscripts written in English are accepted. They should be typed on one side of the paper only, with double spacing (at least 1 cm between the lines) and margins of at least 4 cm on the left side and at the top. The manuscript should be submitted in triplicate with three complete sets of figures along with a computer disk containing an exact copy of the manuscript with tables and figures in a separate file (TIFF, EPS or JPEG). The first page should include full names of the author(s), the name of the institution(s) or hospital from which the work originates, the address (and fax number) of the corresponding author, and a short running title. An Abstract mentioning Material and Methods, Results, and Conclusions should be included (maximum 200 words). Suggestions of key words according to Index Medicus should be made. Abbreviations should be spelled out when first used in the text. Uncommon abbreviations and clinical jargon should be avoided. Footnotes are not accepted. Tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals, each with a short descriptive title. Legends for illustrations should be brief explanations.

Contributions should be brief, carefully revised before submission to exclude unessential matter. It is the author's responsibility to have the English language revised before submission of the manuscript.

Correspondence and Short communications. For the rapid publication of original studies on limited subjects or, occasionally, interesting cases, Acta Radiologica prints short reports, not exceeding 2 to 3 journal pages. The manuscript should be arranged according to the instructions for full length reports, but the Introduction and Discussion must be kept to a minimum. Casual observations, the application of diagnostic or therapeutic measures or, for instance, modifications of procedures, may be published as a Correspondence not exceeding 600 words (one printed page). The contribution should be written in the style of a letter to the Editor, without subheadings, and should usually not include more than 5 references. One short table or, alternatively, one single-column-width illustration may be included. The editorial processing of manuscripts for correspondence and short communications will be rapid.

Units and mathematics - The International System of Units (SI), should be used. A zero should always precede a decimal fraction (i.e., 0.123). Mathematical expressions should be set out clearly. Make a circled notation in the margin to explain possibly ambiguous characters such as 1 (numeral 1 and letter 1), 0 (zero and letter, O, o), x (multiplication sign or letter x). In hand-written equations, mark clearly e and c; u, n and v, and letters in which capitals and lower case are nearly indistinguishable when hand-written; also primes and apostrophes. Use the solidus (/) for fractions and exp (...) when the exponent is complicated. In displayed formulae, the horizontal fraction line is preferable.

Illustrations - Glossy prints, unretouched and unmounted, should be submitted. Prints to be placed together should be of the same scale and of the same height to facilitate reproduction. The prints should have the same tonal relations as the original (for example, conventional angiographic films, white vessels on dark background; the reverse for subtraction films), with the patient's right to the reader's left; this is also valid for CT images and other transverse images. Lettering and arrows should be included on the pictures.
Diagrams and graphs should be clearly drawn in black on a white background and submitted as glossy prints or the original art work. Lettering must be large enough to be legible after photographic reduction.

Color drawings or photographs are accepted if the costs are defrayed by the author(s). Current rates will be quoted by the publisher.

The figure number and the name of the first author must be marked lightly in pencil, and the top indicated, on the back of each illustration.

References - The references should be arranged and numbered in alphabetic order and written with both upper and lower case letters. They must include name(s) of all author(s) followed by initials, full title of the article, and name of the journal as abbreviated in Index Medicus. The volume number, year of publication in parentheses, and number of the first and last pages of the article should follow. Reference to books and monographs should indicate the author, the title and edition of the book, the names of editors, the name of the publisher, and the place and year of publication.
