Instructions to Authors
Journal categories
The main categories of papers that are published in Acta Cardiologica are:
EDITORIALS Editorials are limited to 1,500 words and 16 references and give the judgment of the writer based on published data.
ORIGINAL SCIENTIFIC PAPERS Authors submitting papers reporting original scientific findings should not exceed a limit of 4,000 words, six figures or tables, and preferably no more than 40 references. They should also provide a structured abstract of up to 250 words. The editors may choose to use a heading for an original scientific paper such as arrhythmias, heart failure, coronary heart disease.
TUTORIALS Tutorials are balanced accounts of all aspects of a particular subject including the pros and cons of any aspect of the problem. They have a teaching purpose and make clear standpoints with regard to clinical decision making and treatment of the patient. They should be conform to the requirements of original scientific papers.
VIEWPOINTS Viewpoints are of the same length as editorials but are designed to let the author speculate on the value of any subject, procedure or treatment.
CASE REPORTS Case reports will be published which illustrate and discuss particular points that are relevant to clinical practice. Case reports should have no more than 1,500 words, 10 references and 2 figures and/or tables. A summary (up to 150 words) should be supplied underscoring the key message of the article.
REVIEW ARTICLES Review articles concern a general cardiological problem which is discussed by experts in the field. The topic should be of interest to a large readership and have important medical implications. The authors should consider the subject from a historical perspective but give priority to recent developments in the field covered by the review.
FOCUS This category is intended for illustrative cardiovascular images such as electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, x rays, scans or pathology specimens. The picture may be emphasized in a 250 word legend.
TRIAL TRACK Investigators who have published a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial in an international peer-reviewed journal in the past three months may summarize their study together with one table or figure in a report not exceeding 500 words. The author should obtain written permission from the publisher and the co-authors to reproduce any previously published material.
FAQ In this section of ``Frequently Asked Questions'' readers may ask questions about a particular topic in cardiology which will be answered by an expert in one of the next issues of the journal.
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Acta Cardiologica welcomes letters commenting on papers published in the journal in the previous six months. Letters should be typed in double spacing on a separate sheet of plain white paper not exceeding more than 600 words and six references in length. The letter should be signed by all authors and be submitted together with 2 paper copies and a computer diskette. They may contain one short table or a small figure. A title for the letter should be provided at the top of the page. At the end of the letter, the writer's full name, institution, city and country should be provided.
