Acta Agricultur Scandinavica publishes original articles concerning agriculture research of international interest and relevance to Scandinavian conditions in two separate sections; "Animal Science" (A) and "Soil and Plant Science" (B). The journal is published on behalf of The Scandinavian Association of Agricultural Scientists (NJF).
The Aim and Scope of Section A is to publish results of original research in animal science and their applications related to the following topics:
- Animal breeding and genetics
- Animal physiology and reproduction
- Nutrition and feeding
- Animal behaviour and welfare
- General animal husbandry and systems of production including economic and technical aspects
- Hygiene and quality of animal products
In addition to original articles, covering basic as well as applied subjects, the journal features review articles and short communications. It is the endeavour of the journal to give place to papers of high scientific quality and international interest, authored by Scandinavian as well as non-Scandinavian scientists in order to stimulate contacts and exchange of knowledge.

Scientists in research, teaching and extension with specialised interest in animal science and production.

Instructions to Authors
PREPARING FOR SUBMISSION
Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not considered for publication elsewhere and has been read and approved by all authors. Animal experimentation methods reported in the journal should meet ethical standards of animal treatment. The submission of the manuscript by the authors means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to Taylor & Francis if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication.
The work shall not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of the Acta Agricultur?Scandinavica or Taylor & Francis.
Conflict of interest and funding: Authors are responsible for recognising and disclosing financial and other conflicts of interest that might bias their work. They should acknowledge in the manuscript all financial support for the work and other financial or personal connections to the work.
SUBMISSION Send manuscript in triplicate to the editorial office. Articles should not exceed 6 printed pages ( = 16 typewritten A4-pages with double spacing including figures and tables). All pages incur a charge of USD 65 per page, which will be charged to the author(s) after publication of the article.
To facilitate the handling of manuscripts, texts should be submitted, whenever possible, in machine-readable form and accompanied by a diskette.
Electronic Manuscripts
The editors encourage submissions on diskette to facilitate rapid accessibility of your work to the readers. The electronic files and the printout must be identical. The diskette should be labeled with your name and the name of the computer platform and version of the word processing system you have used. Please observe that Taylor & Francis can receive files from any word processing system; however, styled Microsoft Word files are preferred.
Please keep illustrations as separate files, e.g. EPS, TIFF, JPEG. The colour must be CMYK, not RGB; all fonts must be embedded, and the resolution of images should be of a quality suitable for printing; i.e. files downloaded from web pages are not suitable, they will look acceptable on screen but not when printed. Do not use colour files if black and white only output is required.
Please use these simple guidelines when preparing your electronic manuscript:
- Please be consistent. The same elements should be keyed in exactly the same way throughout the manuscript.
- Do not break words at the end of lines. Use a hyphen only to hyphenate compound words.
- Enter only one space after the full-stop at the end of a sentence.
- When emphasising words, please use the italic feature of your word processor software.
- Do not justify your text, use a ragged right-hand margin.
- Use a double hyphen (--) to indicate a dash in text.
- Do not use the lowercase l for 1 (one) or the uppercase O for 0 (zero).
- The space bar should only be used as a word separator. Use TAB when indenting paragraphs or separating columns in tables.
Layout
Manuscripts should be in English; typed, double spaced on A4 paper with page and line numbering and consisting of:
Title which should be concise and informative but as short as possible.
Authors' names and name(s) and addresses of department(s)/institution(s) to which the work is attributed.
Abstract with surname(s) and initials, name(s) and addresses of department(s)/ institution(s) in brackets, title of manuscript, and name of journal, abbreviated as in the reference list. The abstract should not exceed 150 words.
Keywords in alphabetical order, 3-10 words which are not used in the title.
Text. The text should normally be divided into: Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, and References.
The Introduction should provide a general orientation of the subject and present reasons for and aims of the study. Concisely written. Text references should be written: Smith & Jones (1988). Hansson: et al. (1990) if more than two authors, or (Smith & Jones 1988. Hansson et al. 1990). References should be cited chronologically. Materials and methods must provide sufficient information to permit exact replication of experimental work or statistical analysis. Results should be clear, concise, and as objective as possible. No discussion of the results is permitted in this section. Indicate in the lefthand margin the approximate position of figures and tables. Discussion should not repeat results, but in a logical way interprete the main results with reference to relevant figures, tables and references. The discussion should be concisely written and as brief as possible. In some cases Results and Discussion may be combined in one section.
Abbreviations, symbols and style. Use only international standard abbreviations. In decimals, use the decimal point, not the comma. Use no Roman numerals. Foreign words, Latin names of genera, species, mathematical symbols, etc. should be italicized indicated by single underlining. Personal names after Latin names should not be italicized.
References should be kept to a pertinent minimum. In the text, references are identified by authors' names, not numbers. The reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order according to the name of the first author, see examples below:

Illustrations. All graphs, drawings and photographs are considered figures and should be kept to a minimum, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. All figures should be labeled on the back with the number, author's name and indication of orientation. Line drawings should be professionally drafted; any half-tones must exhibit high contrast. Details must be large enough to retain their clarity after reduction in size to single column width (81 mm). In exceptional cases column width (120 mm) will be accepted. One uniform final size of letters throughout is recommended. Any colour illustration must be paid for by the author (USD 750 per page). Figure legends should be clearly typed on a separate page.
Tables. If results are already given in graphs or diagrams, tables should not be used. Double documentation is not acceptable. Each table should be typed on a separate page, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and have a self-explanatory title. Tables should be planned to fit to a final width of 81 or 120 mm.
Review articles can be accepted and will follow the same review policy as manuscripts presenting original research.
Short communications of not more than 2 200 words or the equivalent space in print and without a summary can be published.
Letters to the Editor. These are reserved for comments on articles recently published in the journal and are not edited except for necessary language corrections. They should not exceed 600 words.
Supplements. Longer articles or proceedings can be published in a series of consecutively numbere supplements according to special agreement with the editorial office. (The purchaser bears all costs for supplements.) These are distributed to subscribers without additional charges.
Offprints. Offprints can be ordered on the offprint order form sent out with the page proofs.
