Instructions to Authors
1. Function and Scope
Acta Acustica united with Acustica, the journal of the European Acoustics Association (EAA) and international journal on acoustics, is published bimonthly. Acta Acustica united with Acustica publishes contributions in acoustic sciences including engineering acoustics. The types of the contributions are original papers which have not been submitted elsewhere, technical and applied papers, tutorials, short communications etc.
2. Languages
Accepted languages: English, French and German. Authors seeking to reach a wide European readership may wish to consider publishing in the English language. Authors of contributions in English, who want linguistic support, may indicate this upon submission of their manuscripts. If the contribution is not in English, a title and a summary in English must be submitted.
3. Manuscripts
A manuscript shall contain the following items:
- title, short title,
- author(s),
- affiliation(s),
- summary,
- PACS number(s),
- text,
- figures,
- tables,
- sound illustrations (optional).
The manuscript should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief via e-mail as electronic file, preferably in pdf or postscript format. Alternatively, the manuscript can be sent as printed version (original plus two copies). It will be forwarded to an Associate Editor having cognizance of the subject-matter field of the paper. The Associate Editor will send the manuscript to referees and supervise the reviewing process. It is possible, too, to submit the manuscript to an Associate Editor directly, provided, the Editor-in-Chief receives an information of this action. In any case the Editor-in-Chief must receive a note including the title of the contribution, a running title of no more than 50 characters, the name(s) and professional address(es) of the author(s), a summary which should not exceed 200 words, and the full postal address of the person to whom the proofs are to be sent, including telephone and e-mail of a contact person. The information must contain the sentence: ''This manuscript has not been submitted to any other journal'' and a signature.
3.1 Style of Manuscripts
Any submitted manuscript should have a form that allows the referees for an efficient study; it should be easily readable and offer enough space to add comments on it. The Editors of Acta Acustica united with Acustica recommend that manuscripts should be written in LaTeX. This assures that the manuscript is easily readable and helps a lot in saving costs. As a benefit to the author, the paper can be published considerably faster. Any LaTeX-style may be used. If an author is not familiar with LaTeX, no special formatting is required. The manuscript should be typewritten wide-spaced, pages should be consecutively numbered and the name of the first author should be repeated in the upper right-hand corner of the pages. The sheets of the manuscript should not be bound or stitched. Acceptance of manuscripts will be notified by the Editor-in-Chief directly. At this stage the authors will be asked to provide original (word processor) electronic files of the final version of manuscripts. Further information on the required data format will be given or may be received through the internet: http://www.eaa-fenestra.org/ACTA.
4. Figures
In order to assure a readable appearance in the printed version, the figures must be carefully designed. Especially the thickness of lines and the height of letters must be chosen such that no drop-outs occur after reduction of the figures to column size. It is recommended to produce originals at a width of about 150 mm each. The thickness of lines should then be about 0.5 mm, the letter height should be 4.2 to 4.5 mm (12 to 14 pt). These Figures are reduced in size to a final width of about 75 mm. In rare cases double-column figures are allowed. In this case the line-thickness should be about 0.3 mm, letter height 2 mm (7 pt). Please do not use larger lettering than necessary and keep it at a constant size either in all parts of each figure or throughout the entire set of figures. If the figures are on separate pages, the number of each figure and the name of the first author must be marked. Original figures should be printed or drawn in black and white. Unnecessary details have to be avoided as well as extensive use of hatched areas. If an author wishes to include figures containing greyscales, it is obligatory to deliver data files of these pictures. In case coloured figures are provided, the CD version of the journal will show coloured figures while they are reproduced black and white in the print version. The publication of coloured figures in the print version requires a special fee to be paid to the publisher. If the figures are produced by using a computer, the authors are asked to provide (in the finally accepted version) separate data files of the figures. Any vector format is preferred, standard postscript is recommended. The figures should have a printing width of 75 mm.
5. Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the person indicated on the first page of the manuscript. The corrected proofs should be returned within 8 days, corrections should be carefully done and clearly indicated. No new material can be inserted in the text at the time of proof reading.
6. Copyright and Offprints
With the submission of a manuscript, and if a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors agree to the exclusive transfer of the copyright to the publisher and the EAA. No honorarium is paid. The first author of an article will receive 25 offprints free-of-charge. Further offprints (in multiples of 25) may be ordered at extra costs. A price list is available from the publisher.
7. Addresses
Correspondence concerning manuscript status should be directed to the Editor in Chief, inquiries concerning manuscript style, file formats, layout of tables and figures and of the final paper may be sent to the Production Manager:
