About the journal
Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology (JAMC) publishes applied meteorological research related to physical meteorology, weather modification, satellite meteorology, radar meteorology, boundary layer processes, air pollution meteorology (including dispersion and chemical processes), agricultural and forest meteorology, and applied meteorological numerical models. The journal also publishes applied climatological research related to the use of climate information in decision making, impact assessments, seasonal climate forecast applications and verification, climate risk and vulnerability, development of climate monitoring tools, urban and local climates, and climate as it relates to the environment and society.
- Articles - Full-length, up to 7500 words or 26 double-spaced pages of text (not including abstract, references, figure and table lists, and figures).
- Expedited Contributions - Shorter articles with an expedited peer-review and publication cycle, limited to 2,500 words (approximately 9 double-spaced text pages), not including abstract, references, figure and table lists, and figures, and no more than a combined total of 6 figures and tables. Multi part papers are not allowed. For Expedited Contributions the Editor will expedite the review process and the AMS publication department will accelerate manuscript preparation for publication in final form. Authors will have a deadline of 4 weeks to complete revisions. Expedited Contributions should be published 10 to 12 weeks after final acceptance. If the manuscript grows beyond the maximum length or figure criteria specified above during the review and revision, the Editor will decide if the paper remains an Expedited Contribution or becomes a regular article. If, however, the paper requires a second round of reviews the contribution must move out of the expedited contributions category and will be considered as a regular article.
- Comment and Reply Exchanges - Comments are written in response to a published article. The author of the article being commented upon always has the opportunity to write a reply. These exchanges are published together. Generally, comments should be submitted within two (2) years of the publication date of the original paper, although the Editor can waive this time limit based on extenuating circumstances.

Instructions to Authors
Prepare your Manuscript
- If submitting to the Bulletin of the AMS, submit a proposal first (all Technical Journal authors should skip this step)

- Select a Periodical and Submission Type.
- Designate a Corresponding Author.
- Adherence to all specified formatting requirements
- Read Author Disclosure and Obligations
- All files uploaded and designated with correct item types
- Cost Estimation and Agreement Worksheet for Journals or BAMS (NOT required for Earth Interactions)
- Electronic co-author verification
- The Editor-in-Chief assesses each new submission to determine if the manuscript meets AMS standards and if it is within the scope of the journal topic areas.
- The assigned Editor invites potential Reviewers for the manuscript.
- When the assigned Editor has reached a decision, the corresponding author is emailed a decision letter. If the Editor requests a revision, the corresponding author should upload that revised version to the Editorial Manager, editing the existing submission.
- When the corresponding author submits a revision the Production staff complete a check to ensure the revision adheres to all requirements and is ready to go into production if accepted.
- During Peer Review and Production the Corresponding Author may log in to the Journal site and view the current status of your submission.
- When a manuscript is accepted for publication the author must submit the appropriate Publications Charge form (for Journals or for BAMS). Copyright forms are also required at this stage.
- The manuscript will be posted for Early Online Release.
- A copyedit and technical edit of the manuscript will be completed.
