General Information The Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery invites original research papers in the form of full-length papers, short communications, case reports, letters to the Editor, and reviews. Original articles will be considered for publication on the understanding that they are not under simultaneous consideration by another journal. Authors should feel free to nominate one or more potential reviewers.
Submission The Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery accepts on-line submissions only. Complete detailed instructions are available on the journal website at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/joto/, which is accessible through any browser without aid of additional software. Details regarding manuscript preparation could be found by following the links: Resources/User Tutorials/Tips for Uploading Files in Manuscript Central. First time users need to register. All required elements for submission of articles, such as title page, main body of text, figures, and tables, have to be uploaded separately. Figures must be saved as image files (jpg or tiff) and with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Figures need to be uploaded separately and individually and should not be included with the text. Registered users can use their login names and passwords to access the website anytime. A link is available to request forgotten passwords. Manuscript These should conform to the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals�BMJ 1988; 296:401�05 or Can Med Assoc J 1988; 138: 321�8). Number all pages starting with the Abstract page. Manuscripts may be published in English or French. When abbreviations must be used, spell out the terms in full at the first appearance, followed by the abbreviation in parenthesis.
Title Page The Title Page must be uploaded separately and should contain the following information: a brief, specific and descriptive title, as well as a running title, names of authors and their highest degree(s); name(s) and address(es) of institution where the manuscript originated; name, address, and telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author; name and address for reprint requests; title, location, and date of meeting at which the manuscript was presented, and acknowledgements of grants or financial support. Please confirm that this is original material by stating the following: ‘This material has never been published and is not currently under evaluation in any other peer-reviewed publication�SPAN>
Abstract A structured abstract (of no more than 250 words) will be published in both French and English. Translation is undertaken by the editorial office when needed but we appreciate your help in providing bilingual abstracts when possible. For clinical material, the abstract should consist of seven paragraphs, each beginning with its introductory heading: objective, design, setting, methods, main outcome measures, results, and conclusions. The abstract should state clearly why the study was done, how it was carried out, the results, and the conclusions derived from those results.
Key Words A list of up to six key words must be provided. References References must all be cited in the text (superscript Arabic numerals without parentheses), numbered consecutively as they appear, and then be listed double spaced on a separate page.
References References to journals should include (in this order) authors‿names with initials, article title, journal name (Index Medicus abbreviations), year, volume number and inclusive page numbers. Where there are multiple authors, list the first three.

Figures Must be uploaded separately and should not be interspersed throughout the text. Electronic graphic files must be submitted as tiff or eps, 300 dpi, and scanned or created at the size they will be placed (usually approximately 10 cm in width). Powerpoint presentations and graphics embedded in wordprocessing documents are not acceptable. If colour figures are submitted and accepted, the full cost of printing these is to be borne by the author. A signed consent form must accompany all photographs of identifiable patients or, alternatively, the author must blank out the eyes in such a way as to make the patient unrecognizable.
Legends to Figures Each figure must be accompanied by a Legend uploaded on a separate page. Include magnifications of photomicrographs and identify stains used on preparations.
Tables, Charts, Graphs, and Audiograms Must be uploaded separately and should not be interspersed throughout the text. These must be legible, in black and white only. When preparing graphs, please remember not to use colour for contrasting different curves. Tables are adjuncts to the text and should not repeat material already presented. Audiograms should be plotted according to ANSI S3.5-1969 (R1973) standards using (ASHA) audiometric symbols.
Tables must be prepared in MS Word using the Table feature (NOTE: Tables cannot be used if they are in PowerPoint or Excel or if they are supplied as images). Tables and columns are all to have headings in place and provided with a title and numbered consecutively in the text with Arabic numerals. Avoid excessive use of horizontal lines. Tables should be provided at the end of the article, after the references and on separate page.
Reprints A Reprint Order form with current rates will be sent to the corresponding author along with the article page proofs. Return the completed form to the publisher with your corrected page proofs
