All submitted manuscripts should be forwarded to: Editorial Office, Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, Att.: Birgitte Kjaer, Sports Medicine Research Unit, Department of Rheumatology H, Building 8, 1st floor, Bispebjerg Hospital, 23, Bispebjerg Bakke, DK-2400 Copenhagen NV, Denmark. 2. Manuscripts should be submitted in English in triplicate, typewritten on one side of the page only, double-spaced and page numbered.
3. The submission should include an accompanying letter signed by the primary author stating that the manuscript contains original material only that has not previously been published, and is not currently under consideration elsewhere, nor will be submitted elsewhere until a final decision has been made by the journal. The manuscript should also be submitted in file format on a diskette. The authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to Blackwell Munksgaard if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The articles published in this journal are protected by copyright and may not be reproduced photographically without the prior written permission of the publisher.
4. Manuscripts should be divided into: Title page (including contact name and address including phone, fax and e-mail, and with a title not exceeding 120 characters and a running head of not more than 45 characters), Abstract (less than 200 words), Key words (3-8 words other than those mentioned in title or abstract), Introduction, Materials and methods (including statement that informed consent and local ethics committee approval has been provided for human studies), Results, Discussion, Perspective, Acknowledgments (if any), References, Tables, Figure legends and Figures. Authors should follow Webster's 3rd New International Dictionary for spelling and compounding.
5. It is mandatory that all manuscripts include a brief perspective paragraph at the end of the discussion in which the findings are put into perspective in the relevant area of sports medicine. This includes reference to possible previous articles in this and other journals and the potential impact of the present findings. This paragraph should not exceed 200 words.
6. For abbreviations and symbols use: "Units, symbols and abbreviations. A guide for biological and medical editors and authors", 1994. The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London W1M 8AE, UK. Use SI units. All units should be metric. Avoid Roman numerals; the point, not the comma should be used as decimal.
7. As a general rule, no more than 40 references should be cited in a full text original article (120 in reviews). References should be cited in alphabetical order, regardless of chronology, and without numbers. This reference style is new for the journal from 1.1.2000. In the text references should be include the authors and the year of publication in parenthesis, e.g. (Saltin, 1998), except when the authors name is part of the sentence, e.g. "Saltin (1998) showed that.". When several references are cited together they should be in chronological order, separated by semicolons. When a referenced article is written by two authors both names should be included; for three to six authors all the names the first time the reference is cited, but thereafter the first name only is given, followed by "et al.". This form is used for all citations of a paper with more than six authors. Unpublished material may be referred to sparingly in the text, by giving the author's name and initials followed by "unpublished observation" or "personal communication"; it should not appear in the list of references. References should be written in accordance with Index Medicus (e.g. Messner K. Meniscal regeneration or meniscal transplantation? Scand J Med Sci Sports 1999: 9: 162-167). For other types of references (books etc.) authors should consult current issues of the journal for style and format.
8. Tables should be kept to a minimum, and typed on separate sheets numbered with Arabic numerals, and have a self-explanatory headings.
9. Figures should clarify the text, should be given a title, and be accompanied by a legend on a separate sheet which make them comprehensible without reference to the text. Details must be large enough to retain their clarity after reduction in size. Submit two copies of each illustration (glossy print or print-ready laser print out), identifying them with a label on the back that indicates the number, the author's name and the top. Any color illustrations must be paid for by the author.
10. Manuscripts that are either "original" or "reviews" and into a lesser degree "case stories" can be submitted. In addition, the editor will request for "invited editorials" of relevance for sports medicine in general. These editorials do not necessarily express the official view by the journal.
11. In addition to the regular manuscripts book reviews, abstracts of sports medicine interest, and announcement of consensus statements or meeting reviews can be submitted to the "sports medicine update" section.
Checklist for submission of papers: a) Three copies of the manuscript in accordance with guidelines. b) A diskette containing the manuscript. c) Title page with corresponding author (fax and e-mail). d) References in alphabetic order, reference in text by author name. e) Two copies of all figures. f) An accompanying letter with reference to originality and unpublished status. g) A perspective paragraph at the end of the discussion section. |
