Oral Microbiology And Immunology
Oral Microbiology and Immunology is dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge pertaining to fundamental and applied aspects of oral infections, including their etiologic agents, diagnosis and epidemiology, oral microbial ecology, virulence factors of oral microbes, non-specific host resistance factors in oral infections, and the immunology of oral infections.
Advances in microbiology are making vital and exciting contributions in many areas and not least in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of oral diseases. Oral Microbiology and Immunology will keep its readers fully in touch with all the latest theoretical and applied developments across a broad, interdisciplinary spectrum.
Instructions to Authors
Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not being considered for publication elsewhere and has been read and approved by all authors. The submission of the manuscript by the authors means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to Blackwell Munksgaard if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. When the manuscript has been accepted the corresponding author will receive a copyright assignment form from the editorial office to be returned signed on behalf of all co-authors.
The work shall not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of the publisher. The articles published in this journal are protected by copyright, which covers translation rights and the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute all of the articles printed in the journal. Written proof of permission to cite personal communications should be included. The author is responsible for all statements made in the work, including changes made by the copy editor
Provide your manuscript on one newly formatted 3.5-inch floppy disk; 4 printed, double-spaced copies including figures and tables must accompany the disk. The paper manuscript and the file on the disk must be the same. Label the disk clearly with the journal name, author and title, file content, computer system (DOS, Windows or Macintosh), word processor (Word, WordPerfect etc.) and version used. Do not convert your manuscript to ASCII format. Include only the files corresponding to the manuscript. Full details of manuscript submission on disk we be sent following notification of acceptance of the manuscript.
Short communications will be accepted and special efforts made to ensure their rapid publication. Papers (including tables and references) must not exceed three printed pages (approximately 3000 words); they should have an abstract, but need not be divided into 'Material and methods', etc., but should be clearly labeled 'Short communication' .
The manuscript - Type the manuscript on white bond paper size ISO A4 (210x297 mm) with margins of at least 25 mm Type only on one side of the paper. Use double spacing. The first page should contain, in clearly separated sections, the title of the article, the author's(s') name(s) and institution(s) to be attributed. A short title, not exceeding 40 letters and spaces, should be provided to be used as a running head. Articles should not normally exceed 6 printed pages. Additional pages will be charged to the author(s) at the rate of D.kr. 800 per page. The article should be clearly divided as follows:
Abstract page - A separate abstract should not exceed 250 words. The abstract should consist of the following labelled sections: 1) Introduction; 2) Methods; 3) Results; 4) Conclusion.
Introduction - Clearly state the purpose of the article. Summarize the rationale for the study or observation. Give only strictly pertinent references, and do not review the subject extensively.
Material and methods - State as briefly as possible.
Results - Present your results in logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations. Do not repeat in the text all the data in the tables, illustrations, or both: emphasize or summarize only important observations.
Discussion - Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and conclusions that follow from them. Do not repeat in detail data given in the Results section. Include in the Discussion the implications of the findings and their limitations and relate the observations to other relevant studies.
Acknowledgements - Acknowledge only persons who have made substantive contributions to the study. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from everyone acknowledged by name because readers may infer their endorsement of the data and conclusions.
References - These should be kept to the pertinent minimum, and arranged in alphabetical order by first author and numbered consecutively. Identify references in text, tables and legends by Arabic numerals (in parentheses). Try to avoid using abstracts as references. Include manuscripts accepted, but not published; designate the abbreviated title of the journal followed by (in press). Information from manuscripts not yet accepted should be cited in the text as (submitted). The references must be verified by the author(s) against the original documents. Titles should be abbreviated in accordance with the style used in Index Medicus.

Micrographs should be designed to be reproduced without reduction, and a linear size scale incorporated. Submit two unmounted copies of each illustration identifying them with a label on the back which indicates the number, author's name and the top. Line drawings should be professionally drawn; half-tones should exhibit high contrast. Figure legends must be typed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript.
