Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery (MIN) is a journal that aims at enhancing the exchange of ideas and outcome or rewarding results between all individuals engaged in neurosurgery. The spectrum of papers invited for publication ranges from surveys, original contributions, and short communications to reports on applications and technical notes including Letters to the Editor. The following topics are given preference:

    General policy

Original manuscripts submitted to the journal must contain original information on clinical, experimental technical research or on practical applications advancing the field of MIN. No substantial part of the original articles shall have been published elsewhere. Each issue of the journal focusses on both a clinical and a technological topic, as well as related original papers, and short communications on free topics.

Types of papers required for both sectors, clinical and technological: Review/State of the Art papers = mostly invited; original papers, short communications and Letters to the Editor.

    Submitting the manuscript

The language of the journal is English. Papers from all countries will be considered for publication. Manuscripts from all countries and for both sections, clinical and technological, should be submitted directly to the journal editorial office:

    Preparation of Manuscripts

All sections of whatever category of manuscripts must be typewritten with double-line spacing and a left-hand margin of approximately 5 cm on each page; 30 lines per page; all pages including the title page must be numbered. All headings and paragraphs should start at the margin and not be indented. The manuscript should have a separate title page containing the following: the full title without abbreviations, the names of all authors with initials only of first names, the main affiliation of the respective authors, and the name and complete address of the corresponding author.

With the exception of standard contractions like EEG, abbreviations should be kept to a minimum and given in parentheses alongside the unabbreviated expression on first use. All categories of manuscripts except editorials, technical notes, short communications and letters to the editor should have a short summary of 15 -20 lines as well as 4 key words preceding the main text. Original articles should contain the following sections: summary, introduction, patients/materials and methods, results, discussion.

    Size limits

Review articles and State-of-the-Art papers can take up to 6 printed pages, including illustrations, tables and references. One printed page = 2.5 manuscript pages. Maximum 6 black/withe, 6 colour illustrations (photograph, graphics).

Original papers: 4 printed pages, 4 black and white and 4 coloured illustrations.

Short communications: 2.5 printed pages, 2 black and white and 2 coloured illustrations.

    Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor are welcome and will be published if appropriate. They should be typewritten doublespaced, and generally no longer than 750 words, with one figure or table and up to six references. Letters relating to material previously published in MIN should be submitted within 6 months of the appearance of the article concerned. They will be sent to the authors for comment and both the letter and any reply by the author will be published together.

    Tables and Figures

Coloured illustrations are welcome if they make an exceptional contribution to the lucidity of the article. Manual drafts will be redrawn according to the journal's style. Tables and figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals. There must be a text reference for each table and figure.

Tables must be typewritten with the legend above the table. Tables must not be submitted as photographic prints. Each table should be on a separate page. Only the first letter of the first word of legends and headings within tables should be in capital letters.

Figures (in triplicate) must be in the form of a photographic print with the figure number, first author's name and an arrow indicating the top pencilled on the back. Legends of figures should be typed together on a separate page; legends must not be included in the figure itself.

    References

References must be listed in numerical (not alphabetical) order at the end of the text. Each reference must be cited in the text by a number given in parentheses. All authors should be cited. References to books should include the name of the publishers and the place of publication. Journal titles should be abbreviated as in Index Medicus. The first and last page number of journal articles should be given.

    Certification by the authors

The author certifies that none of the material in his manuscript has been published previously and none is currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. The includes symposia, proceedings, transactions, books, articles published by invitation, and preliminary publications of any kind except abstracts of 400 words or less. All the authors and all individuals mentioned in the paper agree with the contents of the manuscript and the contents that are specifically attributed to them.
