Instructions to Authors
In preparing articles for submission to the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, authors must follow the guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition, 2001). Copies can be found in most university libraries, or may be obtained through the APA Order Dept., P.O. Box 92984, Washington, DC 20090-2984. (www.apa.org/books). Tel: 800-374-2721.
- All articles must include an abstract of 100-150 words typed on a separate page along with 3 to 6 Key Words not used in the title.
- The entire manuscript must be double-spaced, including tables.
- Manuscript length should not exceed 28 pages, including references, tables, and figures.
- Special attention should be given to the accuracy of references.
- Figures must be crisp, clear, and properly labeled. They may also be submitted on disk if created in Excel, or saved as .tif files, or created on a Macintosh in PageMaker, Freehand, or Illustrator.
- Line numbers should be continuous throughout the text to facilitate the review process.
- Authors should check carefully the final revision and retain a copy of the manuscript.
- Manuscripts should not be submitted to another journal at the same time.
Submit 4 paper copies of the manuscript to:
Deborah Tannehill, PhD School of Physical Education Pacific Lutheran University Tacoma, WA 98447-0003 (email: tannehdl@plu.edu).
Manuscripts will be acknowledged upon receipt and will be sent to 2 reviewers for blind review; the review process normally takes 2 to 3 months for an initial decision. There are no page charges to authors. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication must transfer copyright to Human Kinetics.
Electronic submission: Note that beginning with Vol. 23, authors will be required to submit their manuscripts electronically as MS Word or Word Perfect files rather than submitting paper copies.
With each copy of the manuscript, authors are asked to submit a separte cover sheet including:
- Title of manuscript
- Name of authors(s)
- Institutional affiliations(s)
- Running head
- Date of manuscript submission
- Full mailing address, Email address, and Phone & Fax numbers of corresponding author.
To facilitate blind review, the first page of the manuscript should include ONLY the title of the manuscript and date of submission. Footnotes that identify the author must be typed on a separte page. The manuscript itself should contain no clues to the author's identity. Once the manuscript has been accepted, it will be published in the first available space after the final revision has been received.
